Painting bumpers and limited fender flares

Ok so i had been wanting to paint my chrome/silver bumpers and fender flares.

So i went ahead and did it this last week.
This is everything i used.

First i did the rear bumper.

Sanded the chrome with 80 grit and the plastics with 220.

Then i wiped everything down with the paint thiner.
I used black primer on the chrome and the adhesion promoter on the plastics.

When using the adhesion promoter appy 2-3 coats with a couple min in between each. then wait 10 min and paint.

Painted chrome

then wait for it to dry and put her back on!

For the front everything is pretty much the same

When you primer the chrome its ok to get some overspary on the plastic. Still use the adhesive promoter on the plastics.

Then paint

Now comes the hard part... Prep on the sides is the most important thing! The more time you put into prep the beter it will turn out.
First you sand everything.

Then tape it all off. make sure to get inside the doors to!

Adhesion promoter (2-3) coats and then paint!

Because who reads the paper anymore anyways! Haha! That is an awesome look though! I would die laughing if you drove it around like that before painting. I know I would. Turned out nice! Didn't expect it to look that good! I might do that when I convert to Addicted front and rear bumpers, I might paint the fender flares black to match the new bumpers. Nice thread on it though! Doesnt look cheaply done or gaudy, good work.

thanks a bunch!! my dad gets the paper every day-ish so i told him to save up haha. i to plan on getting some new bumpers so thats kinda why i did it. my neighbors are used to it haha they are amazed at all the stuff i am doing

Really like the new look!! To be honest when I first read that you were doing this I wasn't sure I would like the colors but it really came out nice. I think that red is the nicest color ever sprayed on a 3rd gen Congrats on a job well done

Did you have any damage to your plastics before painting? Scrapes scratches gouges? If so what did you do to fix them? I have a few and would like to get rid of them before painting them.

yeah i did have a crack in the front plastic. the paint covered it up pretty well. and the mud flaps had some crappy touch up work, its all gone now.

Yeah me to. i used it on my old rims and it held up fine. it should be pretty easy to touch up to.

there really isnt. i just wanted to see how to take it off and how it looks. i realized that it was harder to put it back on because you really dont want to scratch it. if i did it again id leave it on.

Looks great man, very nice work! I had to tape everything off when I bed-lined my rocker panels so I know how much of a PITA it is.

Looks like I am going to have to do my bumpers soon...

Looks good man! :bravo: I just masked and painted my limited trim with a bed liner coating. It has a flat black textured look, I am still debating if I'm gonna paint the bumpers or not. I kinda like the chrome but black or dark steel could look pretty mean also.

thanks, i used to like the chrome and then it grew old on me. its nice tho because you dont see much of it anymore haha

How many cans of black acrylic did it take? I have a white runner so I'm torn between doing black fenders or matching the white.
