Painting bumpers and limited fender flares

I didn't think I would like the black but it does look good with the TRD stickers! Curious as to why you didn't remove everything to paint it though. Also, did you put on a clear coat at all? I know you want to keep it matte looking but they do sell a matte clear coat that will help protect it. Otherwise, the paint won't hold up.

Pshhh i think i used 5-6 maybe more. im not 100% sure.

I didnt take off the fender flares because they ar very hard to get off with all the tabs holding them on and such.
I didnt use a clear coat because i used the gloss black paint. I think it will hold up great. we will see tho.
 
Nice job. Interested to see how well it holds up, especially the front bumper against rock chips.
 
did you leave the brackets on the bumper parts when you removed the bumper? And how many bolts did you remove? mine are a pain and they wont budge

just the four on the front and all of them on the back. you may need to use some pb blaster or wd40 to get them loose
 
Actually looks great dude. I was also hesitant as I read your original post - but you took the time to do it right and it turned out great. I'm currently sourcing new bumpers and I think you just swayed my decision to order Primered bumpers and paint em myself. Sweet.

go for it dude. the better you prep. the better it will turn out!
 
Workin on finding some bumpers in the US to have shipped to "Ship Happens" for me to pickup. If you know of any reliable sources let me know... I've been searching eBay for hours but get an "icky" feeling from most of the sources.

LONG TERM UPDATE


Been a while since i did all this.
The paint is still holding up well.
The front bumper has some chips in it which is to be expected.

I dont have my rear bumper any more

The flares are still fine.
Scratches from the trails but nothing that went through the paint.

Now that's its been a bit...do you wish you would have used a clear coat? Do you think that would have helped on the scratches? I don't know how much 4 wheeling you've done...but I think it still looks great! I would be scared to death to paint everything you did...your my hero!

no i dont think i would. all i have to do is spray it again and its back to new.
i mean it would happen if i painted them or not so i dont mind.
