Pass airbag light on with pass in seat

Just noticed today that even with someone sitting in the passenger seat its showing the pass.airbag is turned off. Guess I'll have that looked at. Did a search to see if it was a common problem but didn't find anything, maybe because Im on tapatalk right now.

If my 6'3" husband is sitting shotgun and he puts the seat too far back it turns off. Maybe that helps?

Hmm I'll try that.... she's not tall but she likes It pretty much all the way back.

I bet thats it. He moved his seat up just a bit and it came back on.

We had the same problem. Tilt the seat forward a little bit.

Well I tried the moving the seat all kinds of ways and it never went off...so since it still under warranty I took ti to the dealer. Seems having the Toyota seat belt extenders plugged in makes the light come on.....take the ext out and the light goes out when someone is sitting in the seat....odd but I guess we know it works.

I read in the manual have the seat reclined too far might disable the air bag. Also, if someone does not weigh enough.

I have this issue now, I do not think my wife weighs enough to activate the air bag (she weighs 100lbs). I am going to read if the setting can be adjusted, and I am going to sit in it to see if it activates at all.

I had the very same experience w/my 10 yr old Niece in the truck. We were coming home from 'Red Lobster' last summer. Suddenly she says, "uncle... that light says 'passenger seat airbag off'"; she never misses anything, that one. I'd never seen or noticed that warning before, so I planned to take it to the dealership to have it checked the next day; still under warranty. I saw my niece into the house where I greeted her mom and older sister; who had just turned 14 yrs old.

She loves to listen to the latest tunes on her ipod and asked me if she could listen in the truck; "which is 'armed to the teeth' with pro-subs!" When we got in (still running with the a/c on) I noticed that the 'passenger side airbag status light was now off... I thought about it for a minute, looked at my older niece and realized that the 10 yr old hadn't quite "filled-out" enough to cause the sensor in the seat to register... just to confirm my theory, I called the 10 yr old and had her sit in the seat once again, and sure enough... 'passenger seat airbag off'!
