Penatrating the Firewall?? Fog lamps.

Hi Yall,

This weekend I was planing on installing my new fog laps and need to run a few wires through the firewall. I was looking on the drivers side and it would appear that everything is in its place and there isnt much room for an 1/8" wire bundle to go through.

When others have ran aux wires into the cab did you need to drill? If no perhaps you could guide me to a place I might be able to sneak them through.

As a side question, is there a prefered place to hook the 12V+ for the relay into or is the batter the best option? I also noticed that the PIAA kit did not come with a fused 12V+ lead i might need to put one inline.

I would try running the wires through the grommet on the passenger side. Havent had a chance to look closer at the drivers side to see if there was a place to run it.

Yeah, your best bet is to get 12v+ from the battery directly or follow the + cable to the fuse box.

cut a small slit into the big gromlet on each side, tap the wires to a straightened coat hanger and pass through the holes, tada..

On my '03 V8, there was a small unused grommet (no wire through it) on the passenger side in the wide open. It's roughly behind the glovebox. Easy enough to get to though. If you've ever replaced your cabin filter, you can get to it behind that area. The hole was big enough for me to run a 2 gauge power cable through.

thats a red wire going the grommet to a switch inside, grommet pops out easily then just cut or drill hole, there is insulation/padding on the inside ( under dash ) you can either pull down to see hole or punch through.

i had a viper alarm installed. the installer lifted the grommet and put the wires under it. now it is lifted laying on top of the wires. is this a problem? cus its annoying me as he should have just cut a slit into it to stick the wires through. Also when i got the alarm installed, ive been hearing this low-pitched, fast-paced clicking noise when accelerating. could it be connected to that?

That could cause an issue. Generally the grommet is there not just for weather protection, but to keep the wires from the sharp edge of steel by the grommet.

So I am looking for a 12V+ that is ignition switchable to provide the signal to the relay. I found the grey wire for the diff lock on my SR5 provides 12 V igition switched. Would it be ok for me to tap off of this or should I look somewhere else?
