Secondly, I learned back in 1999 NEVER EVER to trust what a Toyota rep say...they are uninformed, dont care to accurately check your inquiry and simply cannot know everything about all the various toyota vehicle and options offered on each. When shopping for my 1999 they told me that the button on the LTD was nothing more than a simple way to engage 4WD rather than puilling the lever like on the SR5 and Highlander models. Little did I realize what "multi-mode" really was and its benefits. Shortly thereafter I found VMags 4R Forums and found out the real difference. Dont make the same mistake. There is NO center diff on the SR5 and TE for the 5th Gen.
I agree reps aren't the most reliable sources of information. That's why I said I hoped he knew what he was talking about.
I'm simply passing along what I was told because there seems to be a great deal of interest in the topic. I read in the Edmunds forum that they're requesting clarification from Toyota about this. It'll be nice to hear the official company response.
