Pinion Bearing

Deranged

New member
My rear differential code is G254 which is an 8" 4.56 4 pinion. I have looked at multiple sites looking for a new bearing and every site I have looked at only has a 7.8" bearing. Is this something I can buy only from a dealership or is it the same size bearing? Any ideas?

Honestly, this isn't something you can change yourself unless you have the tools and know-how to do it. And if you get a rebuild kit and pay to have it installed you'll spend more than you would to just get another 3rd member from a junkyard and install it yourself...

Thanks for the info. After heeding your advice I searched around for instructions on changing it out. I found this site which was really detailed on how to do it and it was a little more work than I wanted to do.

I just took an identical 3rd member out of a parts truck and had it swapped in about 2 hours. It drives like new.

Thanks again.

I'm sure you can get the bearings at a local Napa or other auto parts store. You did do it the easy way by just swapping out the third member. I build performance rears so I know that it is not a job for the inexperienced.
