Here are the pics from the install.

Here is the single din kit with the Pioneer Radio I replaced on top. up for sale, make me an off. Second one down is the metra kit for double din, as you can see we had to cut top and bottom to make the pioneer fit, terrible install. Last is the beskits, great kit, fit perfect with no trimming.

Here is the beskits install without the radio so you can see how nice the fit is, snaps right in behind the plastic, keep in mind I have the limited and it may be different?

Here is the y splitter and antenna plug adapter to make sure that BOTH antennas are plugged into the back of the radio, on newer radios they only have one antenna plug and you can't use the 2 4runner antenas so the radio reception sucks, with this y adapter it works like factory. Get one, period.

Here is the back of the Pioneer 4400 that has only one antenna plugged in by my installer, with the adapter it takes the small end of the antenna and allows you to plug BOTH antennas into the y adapter and then you plug the single end into the radio... and shazamm, radio reception is back to normal.

Hey earth, haven't even seen the new 2014 head units, my 4400 is great and I don't ever need multi DVD capability. Also found the 4400 at frays on sale for $299.

I just bought an 03 limited WITH JBL 6-cd and RDS a few days ago and have ordered some audio stuff for it. So far I bought:

From reading your posts, before installing the metra kit I should get the Best Kits? I also need the Y-adapter?

Anything else I should get before installing?

Ok... Ordered the bestkits and radio antenna adapters. Just about ready to install... I've read about issues with aftermarket head units and the pac-tato issues. Yet no one has cleared up whether or not they've actually had success with aftermarket HU and stock JBL surround 10-speakers. Should I be concerned?

Hello, I have been reading your post and are very helpful, but I got some trouble here. I have a 2003 4runner Limited with RDS JBL sound system and I wanted to change the stereo head unit.
I already bought a double din PIONEER FHX700BT and its "specific" harness and dash kit. I had no problem with the dash kit, but when I plug the harness, the RCA cables and the wiring to the brand new stereo I only receive electricity (the stereo turns on) but it doesnt send the signal to the amplifier or speakers I am not sure.
This is the harness, dash kit i bought.

(Im not interested in the adapter for wheel control or the Y adapter for the antenna, I only want the head unit to send the signal)

ft8a, you might need to start your own thread. Are you trying to use the stock amp and the JBL speakers? If so that is quite a challenge as the stock HU sends data to the JBL amp and it (the amp) splits the signal out to the various speakers. The amp also does the treble/base/fade etc. You also need to be able to turn the amp on and I'm not sure the harness you are using is correct. There are threads out there with the right part numbers.

Axxess aswc

Hi I just got my pioneer avh 5500 installed today and realized that on the axxess aswc steering wheel control I could not go to the normal preset stations (like stock)but it would just tune to the next station (ex. 90.1, 90.2 etc.) but I did have cd controls to skip to other tracks along with pandora/iTunes skipping capabilities on the steering wheel control. I brought it back to where I got it installed and asked to get preset capabilities just like stock in the radio function and they did it but now I don't have any cd/iTunes/pandora capabilities with the steering wheel control. Is it one way or the other any help with this would be great!

I can change the radio preset and the USB mp3s using the steering wheel control (left side above mode). I did not have to do anything with the Axxes box. Maybe it's a config on the HU? I have the 4400 model.

Yea, I was able to do that at the beginning but then I went back to try to get it set to preset stations but now I font have controls to the cd/iPod controls from the steering wheel. I'll probably bring it back in.

Instrument Cluster Not Working Following Radio Install

Purchased an '03 Limited two days ago. Have been tuning it up before a cross-country trip back to school in two days.
Took apart the dash and installed my own radio. Radio works perfectly. Also painted dash with black truck bed liner. Looks awesome.

I put the dash all back together and turned on the car to find that the instrument cluster was not working. No lights, no odometer, no movement of the gauge hands.

Was there a wire cluster I did not connect again?

When I took the dash apart, I did not go past the instrument cluster.
All the lights work, the turn signals work, the radio works, etc. I checked fuses and spun the dash light. The problem is that the entire instrument cluster doesn't function.

its likely a burnt fuse, check in the kick panel fuse area of the car...just below the drivers foot.
