Pioneer's latest NAV Units

Hi Everyone,

For those of you waiting for a NAV head unit with all the goodies (as have I), Pioneer has two units coming out this spring.


The one I'm drooling over is the AVIC-Z1.
It has a double din chassis, 3D Maps, Bluetooth, Nav info on Hard Drive, Voice capability, complete Ipod interface and dual AV source.

Price for the N3 is $1800.

nice thanks for the info. Will you still be able to watch dvds off the unit itself without and extra monitor?

I think it's probably the same as the current units - let you watch DVD movies on the monitor while the vehicle is in Park.

Which is OK - I'm thrilled to be able to send a movie to the back, and answer a phone call in the front, while I'm looking for the nearest Starbucks.

Eclipse nav

Anyone know about the eclipse nav units? My friend was telling me eclipse makes a nice all-in-one unit that would be plug and play with the right harness. The prices on ebay for these units are around 800-1000 and play DVD movies. The movie feature makes the eclipse sound better than oem nav and it appears cheaper than OEM but is the nav comparable?
Just got back on a trip from Maine...no Nav. Once you have Nav... You can't turn back! Maine... all-wheel drive...Nav...I'll take all wheel drive! But what a pain in the @#$%^ My Nav fell asleep this trip!!

Eclipse systems are very good. Eclipse is made by Fujitsu-Ten, which is the same company that manufactures the stock stereos and other components for Toyota. Because of this, the user interface is very similar and the units even integrate the steering wheel controls without aftermarket adaptors. The AVN-5435 is next on my list of upgrades for my new 06 Sport.

I would stay away from Eclipse...it's not the same Company as it once was. Circuit City will start to carry Eclipse this year if that gives you insight. The quality just isn't there anymore and the engineers at Eclipse admitted this to me when I had the Eclipse AVN5495.

I recommend the Kenwood Excelon DDX8017 or the new Alpine Double Din version.

I'm open to other points of view, but did have my mind set on the AVN-5435 because it seemed to be a high quality, well-equipped unit that was very compatible with my 4Runner. The navigation was very difficult to use I thought. I also didn't like the fact it didn't have very many points of interest compared to other brands. The screen quality was also not up to par with other brands. The SQ was just plain horrible.

The problems stem from trying to mass produce products and do so much cheaper. Eclipse has been a big money loser for Fujitsu-Ten from what I've read and heard in the car audio world.

Thanks for the input. If I have to buy an eclipse new to have a warranty, then that will open up pioneer and the Kenwood as options. Maybe I should just stick with a facory nav and my wife can read a book!
