Plastic Hood scoop removal?

Does anyone here know how to remove the plastic guard that blocks the air from getting in the hood scoop? There are 4 screws holding it in place, but there must be a trick to removing them. They have a sort of feature that prevents them from being turned out. You can tighten them, but not loosen them. Am I missign something?

Hm sounds similar to how my bug deflector attached to my hood. I think you have to pop them out. Are they plastic?

Well, It seems there is a small philips head screw on the center. You have to pull the hood padding back to see it. Don't just hank on the scoop itself, you will break off the little bracket that the screw goes into....don't ask how I know that!!

so wat is the exact benefit from removing this? i thought bout doing this but im trying to way the options.

I wanted to remove it to repair a slight crack and to also be able to sand/prime the small crease in between the hood and the scoop.

oh ok bc i saw ppl trying to take theirs out in hopes that itll help the engine.
