Popping/Clicking sound coming from lumbar area of drivers seat when I accelerating.

So I've recently noticed a noise thats bugging the #@$% out of me. Whenever I accelerate or go around a corner or anything that pushes my back into the seat there is like a popping or clicking type sound in the lumbar section of the seat. It isn't loud at all and I would venture to guess you probably couldn't hear it unless you were in the drivers seat (I think I can hear it better because the vibration that the sound makes is directly in contact with my body if that makes since). I'm wondering if something is disconnected or has poked through something in the lumbar section. Everything works fine with the lumbar support but I just can't figure out what the sound is. Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like you broke something in the seat, broke a weld or something?

How big are you?

Maybe someone on here could find a schematic of the seat to help you narrow down the spot where you are hearing the sound.

You recently bought the truck right? Maybe your dealer can help you out with it if you say it has been doing it since you bought it.

I'm quite big. 300+. The dealer will deffinitely fix it (they better) since its still under warranty. If I had to guess I would say 21 or 14. What are those parts?



Edit: just saw the list. Is the buckle back the female part of the buckle? if so thats not it. What is the SR5 sport stone right?

Not trying to offend you but the weight might be the factor. If you are getting in and out, putting 300+ force into the back of the seat over and over, it probably takes quite a hit.

Yes the buckle back 21 is the female part of the buckle and 14 is just the cover over it. The SR5 sport stone right is the seat color/covering. I am wondering if you popped out one or 2 of the seat supports that goes horizontally on the back of the seat? That would make a clicking noise here and there.

It looks like if the main parts of the seat are messed up, you may need a whole new seat frame #8, not sure if they would swap all the little parts or just get a whole new seat leather, controls, etc.

Let us know what the dealer says.

the weight might be a factor but that's not acceptable. I've owned an eclipse, 350z, g35 and other vehicles and this has never been a problem. I certainly am not going to allow the dealer to use that as an excuse not to fix the problem unless they can show me somewhere where there is a weight limit on the seats.

I was thinking the same thing....watch them try and pull that. I would ask them where the weight limit is or how come you were not advised of this when you bought the vehicle! That would shut them up! Post what comes from this and what the issue was.

It sounds kinda stupid but is your seat tight to the floor, maybe double check that first.
 
tonight i lowered the lumbar pressure all the way down to nothing on the lumbar adjustment and the sound seems to have stopped. maybe it's something with that
 
Looks like the Lumbar is #9 on that chart(about $450). Maybe one of the ends that holds it in popped out of the metal seat frame?
 
My 2003 driver's seat had a break in one of the seat tracks. Dealer welded it and it was fine when I traded it in last year.

There is also a TSB on problem seats track pins that can also be the cause.

Were you able to see where the break was on the seat crack?

Unfortunately, no. It's a long story as to why but the short of it is: the tech told the service rep what the problem was and she forgot about me. After 2 hours of waiting I asked what the problem was. The tech assumed he wasn't fixing it since he didn't hear back from the twit so he put the seat back in. I was so aggravated I just told them to fix and left....so I didn't see it.

Has anybody been able to find a fix for this that doesn't involve a trip to the dealer?

I had an '05 4Runner, '08 Tundra, and now an '07 4Runner and EVERY SINGLE ONE of these vehicles have had this exact problem. It is not a weight issue as I'm 6'4" 200 lbs and it is clearly a design flaw. What I don't understand is how this flaw has been overlooked for so many years by Toyota. Toyota replaced the drivers seat frame assembly in my '05 4Runner and '08 Tundra under warranty. Obviously my '07 4Runner isn't under warranty so I'd have to pay for it myself which isn't going to happen.
