Portland oregon

Freezing rain really takes the fun/safe/control out of things. Ended up driving down to salem at midnight last night. Freeway wasn't nearly as fun as the back roads but I already knew that. Still was more time in the snow.

Alrighty Gents, i'm off work tonight and tomorrow night, so i'm going somewhere tomorrow! to play in the snow!, assuming the ice-storm-appocolypse doesn't strike before Tomorrow. Have no idea anywhere near town (Hillsboro) to go so i'm going to the Hillsboro Library next to Dawson Park (it's a BEAUTIFUL park) around 10AM to decide / plan where to go. than on to wherever the hell i want to go, or wherever sounds the best. feel free to join if you like, again be there around 10am, anyone is welcome to swing by! Here is what i'll be driving in:

Have a good Saturday guys! :cheer2:

well i just put my XRC8 Winch through it's paces pulling a buddy of mines Yukon Denali out of a ditch! had to attach my tow hitch to a telephone pole since his rig is 1800 pounds heavier than mine! man she performed amazingly! Literally drug out of the ditch on the the frame rails!

going to be a good weekend!

Stopped on a steep hill and turned off traction control. Realized I won't do that again. Hillsboro sounds fun but doubt I will make the trek. Have fun!

Beautiful day in the snow! deepest part of the day was Tilamook State forest, 1.5 - 2ft of snow (where i was on the backroads),ODOT hadn't plowed hwy 26 yet even!
this is HWY 26

so after getting stopped by the burm of snow created by the plows, i aired down to 22 LBS a little off to the side of the logging road in case someone happened by, this increased my traction by 100% it felt like!:

nothing too crazy since i was by myself, only went ~2 miles then turned around here:

Good time! there was 2 4th gen 4runner at the library next to each other, so i thought there was a good turn out! but they where just walking there dogs and romping in the parking lot, couple of Jeeps on ~38" tires also, where having a meetup, but they looked allot more serious than i was feeling today.... time to make a snow man!

Didn't want to make the drive out there. Too many other cars to compete with.

no worries man, I completely understand! Hopefully i'll meet someone from this site eventually! i hope....

I don't think the Ducks where happy that i didn't bring them any food....

Personally, I love the snow. But right now I've got freezing rain dropping down and making that stupid crust that I hate.
Although it does make the rig look cool...

They plowed my road just in time for the freezing rain. I can't even walk on it. Might need to buy some ice skates. May leave the rig parked tomorrow.

How much pressure you usually run around with? I have been running around with 12psi, usually I pump them up to 35psi for normal road driving.

Honestly this is the first time I've air'd down (in a car, do it on the motorbike allot), i run 35 usually all the time on the tarmac. I really noticed a difference with the drop in pressure, instead of cutting through the snow, i was "floating" on it allot better!

12PSI!! wow, i don't have beadlocks on, stock 16" wheels.

Airing down is awesome. It gives you so much better traction and way more tread contact with the ground. I don't have beadlocks either. I just have some 15x10" steelies. Never have popped a bead, even running at 9psi all day wheeling, usually I keep it around 10-12psi for normal wheeling. Honestly my tires don't even have a huge bulge being at 12psi.

:wow:

Well, maybe if i have some company to calm my nerves, i could go lower... @ ~ 22LBS there was a big bulge at the contact point, so i didn't want to chance it. This time.

Yeah you don't want to take any chances while you are out by yourself. I am not too worried because I have a compressor in my runner. What size tires are you running? I'm sure that has a bit to do with how much they bulge out.

Here are some recent pics of mine at 12psi. Not the best pics but you can kind of see a bulge.

Man you're not having much if any bulge on those! are the E rated? i'm running 265/75 R16 C, Duratrac's, i have a compressor also (cheap little yellow one from Fred Meyer if i remember correctly). They where not bulging badly, just enough for me to notice....

No they are just c rated 35" bfgs.

i wont hesitate to drop down to 10-12 if needed and i dont have beadlocks or a spare... i have never popped a bead. im my pickup i will drop the fronts down to about 6 or so and the rears down to 4, again no beadlocks and never blown a bead -but thats only for snow wheeling, if its rocks and mud then i leave it around 10 and 7.
