Power antenna aftermarket radio wiring?

I've searched, but didn't find what I needed. I'm wiring up an aftermarket head unit on my dad's 99 4runner. The metra harness has a blue wire for the power antenna, but the radio harness doesn't have a corresponding blue wire to connect it to. Can I run it with the red power wires so it will go up when the car turns on?

This isn't going to help you much, but the head unit you are swapping in should have a wire to trigger the power antenna. I would check the web for more information in that direction. Now, i can say I ditched the power antenna many moons ago and changed over to the Taco whip, less headache and not expensive.

I look at the electrical wiring diagrams for the power antenna. That tigger wire has to be there somewhere. Will be later tonight before I can look for it.

What radio is it?

Most aftermarket radios have both an "antenna" wire (on with radio only) and an "amp" wire (on when stereo is on, off when stereo is off).

I know my aftermarket radio worked with the power antenna. So now I wondering if harness just dosent have the wire marked on the kit he has.

This is what was in my 1998 4 runner Tetanus 1. The wiring kit had the blue wire and the pioneer head unit wire was blue white. I included photos so you could see what pin on the larger connector corresponds to.


As you have to pull the wires off the factory amp and plug into them. If I am remembering correctly.

I went ahead and wired the blue antenna wire from the metra harness into the red wires so the antenna goes up as soon as the car is turned on and down when it is shut off. Hopefully this is a good way to do it.

Only bad if you off-road on trails with low branches that eat antennas.

Is a good way it works. I purchased the Y cable and adapter to plug in the convenience antenna and electric antenna
into head unit added a switch for electric ant. The only time I need to raise electric ant is when I'm out in the country, limbs tend to get in way.
