Hey all,
If you have a power antenna (that still works) and don't like the constant up and down that it seems to do constantly, you need to do this mod! I first read about it here, but figured it would be a huge PITA so I put off doing it until last night.
I went to Advance Auto and bought a roll of 18ga wire, a small pack of butt connectors, and a toggle switch.
I pulled the center trim piece from around the radio and removed the 4 screws holding the radio (mine is aftermarket) in. The radio came right out.
I searched the wiring harness for what wire I thought might be the power antenna when I noticed it's plainly marked, which made this job super easy.
I clipped the wire, stripped both ends and added butt connectors.
Then, I mocked up how I was going to run the wires, which was right out of the back of the console, under the carpet, behind the fuse panel cover, and over to the big dash knock out.
After cutting roughly 4' of wire, I stripped the ends and connected them to the butt connectors on the wiring harness. I then turned on the key to make certain I had the right wires cut. No antenna movement. Touched the wires together and the antenna went up. Separated the wires, it went back down.
Perfect.
Reinstalled the radio and trim, hid the wire under the carpet and interior trim, and used two more butt connectors between the switch and new wires.
After checking the switch for proper operation, I used s stepper bit to drill a 9/16" hole in the knock out. Tightened down the little bolt on the outside of the switch, straightened the on/off switch, and popped back in the knock out.
Voila!
Now, when the switch is turned on, the antenna comes up and stays up. Off goes back down and stays down.
Coated the antenna in some WD40 since it probably won't see much usage any time soon since I pretty much only listen to podcasts and I iheart.
Hope this helps somebody! It was much easier than I was expecting!
