power?

with the off roading i think it depends on what kind of off roading. climbing etc atuo. snow and mud manual.. i live in utah and we still have quite a bit of snow still so when i go off road if i get stuck i like the manual for rocking forward reverse to get unstuck.. i dont have emissions here either and did plan on removing my cat as well. more power and little better sound lol. but yes i am very curious in the mpg. and what is the difference from kmph and mph. sorry dont know the ratio between them.. thanks everyone. this has been helpfull nice to get alot of opinions..

oh and a v8 swap would be nice... and expensive. i know they do make that conversion kit though

As far as the block goes, the pistons and head are different, larger combustion chambers and lower compression pistons. Some folks are running a 22RE bottom end with a turbo head at 10 psi with no problems, premium fuel is a must. Propane is ideal.

well i just found a white 87 sr5 efi v6 4runner. no rust. rebuilt in '07 currently 235k. two problems. its in vegas. and it has a vacuum leak. how hard will this be to fix. oh and the rear window is stuck. not a big deal to me. they only want 3k for it. GOD I HOPE I GET MY TAXES IN TIME TO GET THIS. OH!!!! im freaking out right now. just waiting to hear back from the guy.
 
he is going to hold it for me and its only 2700 im way stoked. im going to start searching for the vacuum hoses. try and jsut replace them all.
 
Congrats on your 4runner!! I just got mine tonight, it's a 4cyl turbo and so far I'm loving it! What do you have planned for yours?

not really sure of mileage at the moment I've taken my truck of the as I've noticed the water pump is leaking from the weep hole :sobbing:
but now that think of it... it wasn't really that bad it's just my other car is a 85' MR2 and fills up for $30 which lasts for quite a long time... I think I remember getting around 300kms from a tank can't really remember for sure though :shrug:
 
1st Gen 3.slow

If you're dead set on a 1st generation with a 3.0 then realize you'll be driving an underpowered vehicle. I have been driving mine for 4 years and have done all the logical steps to improve its performance. I do have an automatic tranny which I think is a burden in the performance department. I switch off the overdrive on hills and have to manually shift it into 2nd when necessary. So it's work driving with the automatic. With a 5 speed you'll have better success.

I can drive 80mph no problem but getting up to 80 is a bit of work. I have a new catalytic converter, good performance muffler and a well tuned and maintained engine and drivetrain. I can go 80.....until I hit some hills. Then the volkswagen busses are passing me uphill. Get a post 1994 with a 3.4 liter. Save yourself the agony!!!
 
he says it has a 4" lift but he didnt mention what kind. since they dont make 4" bocy im sure its suspension. so im going to add the 3" body to it. cut out the cat.and drive it for a while. obviously after i get the vacuum hoses replaced. cruise with the top off and a convertable canvas top on. and just enjoy it. drive with some 33's and love life. then with time get the sas under it and eventually hit moab. (since i live so close and have never gone)
 
ok sorry I guys I think I screwed up on the conversion somewhere's I think I get around 90-100miles per tank? it sounds like the truck you are buying is a good deal at $3000 if it has some lift and no rust
 
i wouldnt be the one to say what year the v6 came out in, but i ended up not buying it and now i am KICKING MYSELF because now i am in the search yet again for a v6 5 spd sr5. they arent out there everywhere. i wish i was mechanically inclined id buy an auto and put a manual in it.from the sounds of it thats a common thing to do to these guys... grrr
 
You should really rethink the V6, the 22RE is a legendary motor. I live in a very hilly area in northwest washington and I never have a problem pulling hills on the interstate or otherwise in my bone stock '87 with the 22RE. My 22R carbuerated pickup soars up the hills with plenty of throttle to go. Same block, but weber carb, 271c camshaft, headers, free flowing exhaust. When I get around to doing the same for the 22RE 4runner, it should do even better than the pickup. The 3.0 is just a heartbreaker.
 
well right now i am really considering buying a 5spd 22re sr5. my main two things is i WANT TO KEEP the power luxury.. and i do alot of free way trabel at high speeds of 78mph. with around four good sized hills.. so i dont want to get stuck doing 60 up them.. that wouldnt be good.

Haha, Im guessing your takling about 60mph? Well dont get the 3vze, I get stuck doing 60kph up some hills in BC. Have to drop back to 3rd gear (manual) and rev the shit out of it to go any faster than that. I just except it. I bought this thing to go offroad. Not average 130kph on the open roads.
