Pre-paid service plan and they want me to pay???

I took the rig in for the 30K service and told him I had the pre pay plan - it was like $800 and worked it in the finance at the time of purchase. He said it would cost me $288 additional for the 30K. Kind of took it in stride (but wanted to go mental) and waked over to the sales building - they were not open yet so I just went to work and will deal with it later today. Just wanted to know if anyone had this same issue.

Sounds like :bs: to me. I guess there must be some fine print that sqeaked by. I would try and get my money back and walk! Please let us know the details so we could warn others.

Was it the prepaid maintenance contract? The one where you get coupons in the mail for the scheduled services, oil changes and such? You might check your contract to see what it covers. There were 4 or 5 different plans available when I purchased my truck. You probably have the plan that covers less than you originally were told by the finance guy who went through your paperwork with you. That happened to me. Shame on me for not reading the paperwork more carefully...

Let me know how it unfolds man. I too have a prepaid maintenance plan and I'll be damned if I have to pay for the 30K service. They said everything was included so I'm not paying them another cent. I'm at 29xxx so I'm up for the 30 very soon.

I had to sit and listen to that sales pitch when I bought my 4Runner. They wanted $895 for all services up to and including 55,000 miles over 4 years. I won't put on 55K miles in 4 years (30K at most), so it was silly to pre-pay that far out.

I found the brochure I have with the fine print. It says that all regular maintenance items are covered according to the maintenance schedule. However, it does not include any service that's listed under the section "Additional Maintenance Items for Special Operating Conditions."

I notice that at 30K, the actual changing of the diff oils and transfer case oils (not just inspect, but change) are listed as these "Additional Maintenance Items".

It sounds like buyer beware. I've said this before - never just ask a dealer for the "30K service" (or any other interval). Always find out what they really plan to do for the price you're quoted. In this case, it sounds like maybe they "normally" change the diffs and transfer case as part of their 30K service - that's how they're hitting you for extra money. Or, maybe they just do that to people with coupons to get some actual cash out of the deal.

I am now "that guy". I forked over $629 for a few oil changes from a dealership that has free oil change. Thanks Datyona Toyota. Yes I was sold. It turns out that the service plan called "premum plus" should be called "less than minimum". It dons not cover the factory minimum for warrenty. I would avoid this plan on my next non yota purchase. Love the rig but 2 more payments and save my $ for an H2 or LR3 next spring. FJ is just a bit too small. The question is how to balance resale - how long should you hold on to a rig before upgrage? When I can only get 20K for it I want to sell it. I am thinking one year or less?

Well I got my 30K service done and it didn't cost me a bloody red cent. My invoice shows this was done:

oil/filter change
rotated tires
replaced air filter
replaced cabin air filter

Parts numbers that were used are:

17801-31090 ELEMENT SUB-ASSY. AI
87139-47010-83 ELEMENT, AIR REFINER
90919-01235 PLUG SPARK
KITACZD3 FILTER, OIL
OIL 5230 MOTOR OIL
90430-12031 GASKET

While there I also had them investigate why my sunroof periodically makes a grinding noise. The dealer copy said they cleaned out some dust/leaves and there is less noise. I tried it and for sure there isn't the noise anymore, but I'll keep an eye out for it. I'll take a better look tomorrow when there is more light to see if they added any grease and where so I'll know where to add some if the problem persists.

Also I asked them to check out why the front passenger window makes more noise when it goes up. They blamed it on my window tint. I disagree because the front window driver window doesn't make the noise and I'm closer to it, but I wasn't too pressed about it. Worse comes to worse, I'll pull the tint off before the 35k service and have them look at it again if it is still making the noise.

Anyways, I figured I'd give an update. You should NOT be paying extra for the 30k, UNLESS you want them to do any of the maintenance for the "Special Operating Conditions".
