Has anyone explored any solid tire options for their offroading applications?
I can't find anything that resembles a "kit" and everything I've seen is either a self healing liner/coating or a full on take your tires and drop them off at a certified installer who solid fills them.
Obviously the industrial sector uses solid tire filling but the drawbacks in a daily driver are additional weight and ride harshness.
In a bugout or even a recovery scenario far from civilization, I'm wondering if there's anything available that can be stowed/carried and only used when necessary.
Open cell (like "Great Stuff") is fairly cheap, but I suspect wouldn't have the strength or bearing capacity required to keep a tire from behaving like a flat (maybe, to be determined and tested I suppose).
Closed cell foam is much more expensive and usually requires a binary setup where mixing through a sprayer is required.
There's "sealants" and liners on the market like "slime" and probably some other more sophisticated stuff, but I'm not sure how that actually performs in very harsh conditions. I feel like it's more of a bandaid to get you temporarily back to aid/help.
Any ideas or kits that people are aware of that a person could keep in their vehicle and use under extreme circumstances (we're talking about situations where extended harsh use would be required and saving the tires for "normal" use would be out the window. Situations where you might not be able to get a suitable replacement tire anytime soon).
I'm not a hardcore offroader. My rig is primarily a daily driver that will double duty as a bugout vehicle if required. But I suppose there's some commonalities between harsh offroad-middle of nowhere applications and crazy dystopian prepper scenarios where puncture hazards abound and no guarantee of replacement tires is a reasonable expectation.
