privacy psa.

As I said, no insult intended, and I am not angry or little.
You may not believe it, but there are those with opinions that differ from yours.

You are correct about one thing, I should not have butted in on your party.

Keep it moving, little fella. When you post stuff like "you should live in a faraday room the rest of your life so you will feel safe" and "Better turn off that "pocket spy" if this kind of stuff worries you" you're trying your best but you're just not very bright so it falls short. Glad we agree. Enjoy your other threads, peanut.

Yeah, you da man.

Hello, I would like to share my recent experience on this subject. I have read this privacy issue thread shortly after my 4runner purchase in July and and have initiated 2 actions---called Toyota to cancel any subscription services such as toyota connect, something like desitination assist etc. and requested Toyota (via this forum's links) do not sell my personal data and delete my personal data. Today i have received 3 updated emails indicating my requests been processed. What shocks me (when checking their data) is the personal data report they have generated and sold before my data delete/stop sell requests have been made. This includes my demographic (including estimated net worth such as housing price degrees career, contact info, all Toyota purchase history, etc details. The report is very detail and extensive (more than 30 pages long) and the worst is the one that confirm my driving behavior/data already sold to insurance companies and other commercial interests. The report lists extensive information about me as a consumer and how TOyota has monetized it in just 1 month time following my purchase of the car. I am very unhappy about this.... While i have little faith in Toyota has deleted my data for good, in coming months i will be watching out for any contacts made by anyone who may have purchased my data. This is extremely poor how they are using buyers info to their financial gain. Lastly, i found a schematics where DCM transmitter is located (it is lower right side of the infotainment unit behind the cover). I have yet to go pull the plug yet ...

Thanks for this detail. Did you finance thru Toyota? Wonder if that gave them access to a deeper level of personal info.

This isn't for "tinfoil hat" wearers. This is for everyone. Toyota is actively selling your information, including but not limited to your name, address, phone number, driving habits, location, where you are parked, speed. They use it internally, with their dealerships, and with third parties. They use it to sell you products, and to profit. This is an invasion of your privacy and you should not condone it.

For those using the Toyota application, you can scroll down to the "Data Consent & Terms" and opt out of Service Connect Communication as well as the Auto Insurance Designed for You. Neither will in anyway change anything on your end, but it will secure some of your personal information.

Secondly, contact 855-226-4048 and request three things; i. a copy of your personal data collected, ii. removal of your personal data, iii. you revocation of your personal data being sold. Toyota will email or physical mail you their receipt of your requests, then they will take their sweet time in addressing them. They will usually require verification and then take even longer. Its normal process, a pain in your butt to waste the precious 10 minutes.. but in the end, it secures some of your personal information moving forward.

These steps also do not in any negative way impact you or your enjoyment of your vehicle. You can continue to use all the same features as before.

If you have any questions, write them. I'll address what I can. Godspeed.

Thank you for the heads up. I completed the steps in the app you suggested. I then called the number you gave and the call taker stated they do not keep personal information and then forwarded me to the Toyota safety sense who also said they don't collect personal information nor sell the information. The 2nd call person said the only time the get my information is when you push the button in the cab requesting their help.

Not sure how to or who to speak with about them collecting personal information at this point.

Actually I have been thinking about this...BTW i purchased my 4runner w/ trade in and cash. No financing. My best guess is they obtained my personal info from driver's license (they xerox copy) and title info on my trade in. There was a form i had to fill out where it asked for my SSN (as if i am financing but since i block any credit info they would not have gone far). My previous Toyota purchase (2 cars ago) was financed and there is a good chance they obtained my personal info from that application--that was for 2009 Corolla. That car was totaled in 2012 by someone running into me and this record of disposal is also noted in the report (albeit via VIN tracking). This just tells me that Toyota keeps info about you forever and do not really delete anything. Again just need to be careful on what you want to share w/ them otherwise they will monetize your info.

Cheers.

i hope no one in this thread carries a cell phone

Or has ever used the internet, purchased a house, or registered to vote.

Your info is out there snd easy for anyone to have if they want it.

Nobody cares where you drive a toyota, and anyone can find out where you park it.

Damn it I was so close. I don't own a house. I don't vote. That damn porn got me again.

Toyota dealers are filling out forms without your consent at the time of purchase. Forms that they are supposed to review with you and get your consent. I know this because upon further inquiry I was given access to my "folder" and there were many documents about personal privacy that I was never presented with.

Another gentleman provided links in this thread. Use those and access the forms directly. They provide email receipts as well. The people you spoke with are either not very knowledgeable or lying.

Its about limiting information out there. Its a person's right. And not all of us live irrelevant lives where our data is not valuable. Good luck to you. Educate yourself.

The amount of pain I have caused you, and the bitterness you feel brings me physical joy.

I am happy to hear that reading my posts brings you "physical joy". I am sure that is the only way you can get any physical joy.

By alerting others who are posting differing opinions from yours, I was only trying to protect your psyche from more damage. I can tell you are easily insulted.

Meanwhile, continue your crusade to save the masses from the insignificant "privacy" concerns you think are important. Maybe you should change your user name to pointlessman.

Yes, your life and data are irrelevant and invaluable to whatever spooky men you’re afraid of. And as someone who works with the intelligence field, I can assure you that you can easily be found and tracked regardless of what “location services” you turn off. If you have anything that transmits any sort of data you are SOL. Hell, you’re tracked every time you drive your vehicle on a highway by systems that don’t involve RF transmissions and are out of your control.

Costco has a black friday deal on tinfoil this year. Go get some and make some more hats for yourself to get through 2021.

Yet here you are repeatedly. Why? You're upset about being told you're a dummy from uneducated parents. I understand. Continue on, you simpleton.

"intelligence field"? Hahaha Thanks for the laugh, kid. I assure you, between us.. I am the more knowledgeable one.

Hello pointlessman:

Cleary your recall and reading comprehension is lacking==I said I should not have butted in to your party, I didn't say I was leaving. Maybe some remedial courses can get your reading skills up to a first grade level.

You seem intent on telling anyone who questions you how dumb and uneducated they are. I suppose that stems from your inadequate mental skills. If you could comprehend that others have valid points, your life would be much better.

Anyway, I'm here for the after party to watch you try to defend you lameness.

lol. You said you shouldn't have, but you did and continue to. My point is, you're a moron who can't help himself. Thats it. See how that works? Get smarter, kid. Read a book.
