Procomp D Window or Soft 8

I will be ordering some wheels tomorrow locally. My selection is limited to Procomp D windows, or the soft 8's because of the source/price I am getting them for.

For reference:

Does anyone have pictures of their rigs with these wheels, or style wheels on? I am having a hard time deciding on which ones to get.

I had the soft 8s on my Toyota pickup and loved the way the looked , always thinking about putting a set on my 3rd gen .

I have the black rock type d steelies. I like em. Same thing as the brocomps. Just a matter of preference, do you like circles or almost-squares lol

Sorry to threadjack, I heard that 4Runners need to use wheel spacers in order to wear steel wheels or the calipers will rub? Can somebody clear that up for me? Thanks!

I prefer the look of the soft 8 on a newer truck like the 3rd gen. I had the D-windows on my FJ60 and '84 mini truck, and it seemed more fitting on an old rustbucket

i have 16x8 steelies with 3.5 in BS no spacers needed wit my set up

Thats kind of like saying you can only use Castrol oil in the engine.

Its not the brand (or type of metal the wheel is in your case), but rather the specs of it.

Usually a 8 inch wide wheel with a 4-4.5 backspace will work for the 4Runner. Be sure to do a test fit first though.

Except with 4-4.5 you'll also run the chances of rubbing you UCA's. Backspacing on my new wheels are 4.25 and if I where to get it aligned today. There would be no way they wouldn't rub the UCA's.

The Cragar's are going to weigh about 35-40lbs per wheel. I had 15x10's on my Jeep, and they weighed 28lbs each.

I like the D windows better, especially if theres a chrome center cap instead of black. In my opinion the soft 8 steeliesjust look marginally cheaper than the D windows

All depends on the exact combination you run. 285's and a 4.5 backspace worked fine for me and a lot of other people. Some tires are wider than others.

I've got 17" ProComp 98s on mine, similar to the soft 8s you have pictured. I did have to put 1/4" spacers up front and shave a little off the 231mm calipers to clear. I don't remember what backspacing I have off the top of my head.

If I had to pick one, I would do the soft 8's
But it almost sounds like you are not sold on either and are settling for price.
I could be wrong but if that is the case, wait and get something you love.

Exactly! I'm running 285/75/16's with 4.25" backspacing and I need spaces before I can get an alignment. Without an alignment, I can't even fit a finer between the tire and the UCA.

Too bad you have to choose the steelies,they are heavy like already stated. I went with the MB Razors which are very similar to soft 8s only in aluminum flavor.
