Dude you have some serious skills, I wish I had the time, money, room and knowledge to do things like that. I just cleaned the ashtray, replaced the rotor and cap and threw in an air freshener in my 95 SR5 and I feel like I pushed the limits of my restoration abilities

I am not sure if the cat is gutted I never checked.

I went to the junk yard and salvaged two 2nd Gen plastic stow compartments. My 88 did not have any and I do not think the 4Runner came with them until the 1990s. I wanted a clean dry place to stow away the factory tool kit and other small items this is why I retro fitted the 2nd Gen plastic compartments.

Pretty much finished with the DVD/Navi install....I want to get another factory radio bezel because, this one was butchered up before I started. I maybe able to repair the trim area but, if not I will just find a cherry replacement.
The unit fits like OEM in the dash and plays great. The DVD will play even when in motion by holding down the power antenna switch for a few seconds, this disables the blackout of the DVD.

if you ground the pink wire that disables the safty feture and you wont have to mess with antenna

Thank you, I tried but, it did not work. The signal has to flash on and off to disable the feature. I have a none power antennae on my truck so, using the factory switch for a power antennae made sense. The dash looks clean and the disable switch is easy to hit.

Not to rain on your parade but couldn't you have just found another 4runner that was in good condition and do minor repairs? It seems like you did a lot of excessive work that would not be necessary on another 4runner. I do like the 2din stereo install....

Good job on the build, I wish I had the time and the garage space to do that.

There is an advantage to what I did…..I know what I have, I know the flaws and the strong points because, I built it.
I did look for a few months but, found nothing worth buying that did not need work. I could not find any super clean first gens the color I wanted. I did find a beauty for 6K in TX but, it was red and I did not want a red 4Runner.
I have around 7K in the build and I am very comfortable with that. I have no car payment, 22 to 24 MPG, I have all the options I want and none that I don’t. I even deleted the rear wiper off the cap because, it was something I did not need.
Everywhere I go someone always has something nice to say about the truck, I have been offered $$$$$ for it but, I don’t want to start over LOL.

To me it is cheap transportation that looks great too:thumb3:

Well, you're right about knowing what you have... you know your runner better than most of the dudes on this site. You have my respect, I don't know if I have the knowledge to take on that type of project. I am in the market for an early 90's 4runner to turn into a project once I sell my 350z, most of the custom work will be done at a shop. Good job on the build!

Yeah I found that finding a GOOD 4 runner from the get go is about impossible. It also seems that for some reason people make them dog kennels, every one I looked at smells like dog and has dog hair all over the place!

Most came up fine after a good cleaning but the rear panels had to be repainted, I used an industrial gray spray paint.

I am working on the seats now….I bought a SR5 drivers seat in Tampa and cometobanks sent me a front SR5 passenger seat to match. Both seats are being repaired and restored at an upholster shop in NPR Florida.
