Project "put a blower on my hoopty" is a go!

After countless months trying to get a good deal on a blower, I finally scored a used 1st Gen TRD SC on TTORA.

First order of business was to disassemble the blower completely and replace the bearings/seals prior to putting it onto my hoopty:

Future tasks include:
-Autometer Zseries boost/tranny temp gauges w/ Lotek pillar pod
-Inline tranny spin-on filter (mounting point for tranny temp gauge)
-7th injector or meth injection (still undecided on this one)
-Cleaned/balanced injectors from Witchhunter

If my wife doesn't kill me for pissing all this money into the wind, I might build a second set of heads w/ ARP studs to replace the ones already on the rig (160k on them already).

In any event, stay tuned

$800 shipped. Included an extra TB, the tensioner bracket/pulley (old style) and used belt.

I have a dynamic tensioner already, just need to fab a bracket for it (or find a knock-off bracket).

nicce, in a couple months when i have the money im going to start the long look for one myself. for hopefully under a grand too, then save up for the 7th injector and etc.. before i install it.

I'm with ya. Been looking the last few weeks for a 2nd gen one. Think I'll do the 6 supra injector deal that URD sells since I have a 98...heard that was little better for y year. Looking forward to this build.

I had been hoping to find a used 2nd Gen for a reasonable price as well, but it's like they all got sold or something...just the jokers on eBay selling the NOS ones for $3k.

I noticed tonight that the snout of my blower did not have the spring on the drive shaft. Has anyone seen a blower without the spring in the snout?

It's a fairly early SC based on the sticker on the snout "000517"; so maybe the spring was something added later in the production run?

If someone has a spare/ruined snout kicking around and wants to sell the spring let me know.

Are you going to re paint it? I think Porsche red or yellow. If you do paint it, paint the valve covers too.

If I remember, you had the TRD headers. yep stainless and new paint.

It would make it look hot.

Don't paint it flat black. It would make it look like a 2nd gen blower.

Black wrinkle paint is what I had planned...if I don't do black, I might do Chevy red wrinkle paint on the VCs and blower.

I'm dropping all the casing off at the machine shop this week to be hot tanked, I'm hoping that's enough to remove all the original paint (I hate the grey paint/power coating on the 1st Gen blower).

Crinkle is good but i think high gloss would easier to clean. Especially if you go off road and get some mud on it.

Do something unique. Powdercoat the supercharger and VC's is Sunfire Red to match your paint.

We'll see what color I end up going with...

First things first, I spent most of the morning scouring McMaster Carr (I love that site!) for some Viton Orings to replaces the ones I removed from the BPV plumbing. Once I figure out which size(s) are the correct ones, I'll post the p/n's here for anyone else that wants to redo their 1st Gen SC.

On a side note, I'm hoping by going with slightly larger thickness Orings I'll be able to solve the evident boost leakage between the BPV plumbing and the blower outlet (which I believe has been noted before for the 1st Gen SC).

Making progress, got the housing hot tanked at the machine shop and ordered in a bunch of parts (bearings, coupler, fluid, etc.):

Need to pick up the rear rotor bearings and find some viton Orings on McMaster to replace the existing Orings on the BPV plumbing...unfortunately the first 75 (literally) I ordered did not work.

Once I'm over that hill, it'll be time to assemble it all and paint it black.
