Is there a way to pull the codes from the obd2 plug without a scanner? I've searched and can't find anything.

Your best bet is to go to a parts store and let them pull codes.

OBD II Scanners are so cheap, everyone should own one.
Think I paid $40 on Amazon for my Actron one years ago, I've lost count of how many times I've used it over the years.
Recently I purchased a Bluetooth OBD II adapter for $20 on Ebay and I use that with an Android app called 'Torque' (free) which lets me read and clear codes with my smartphone ... so thats a pretty cool option too. :cheers:

GM and others used to let you pull codes from a vehicle by shorting two pins on the connector in their OBDI vehicles, but as far as I know there is no way to do this any any OBDII vehicles.
Hi! You may try to pull codes without a scanner. It works on european Land Cruiser Prado GRJ120 (1GR same engine as V6 4runner).
(1) Key ON.
(2) Connect DLC3 13 (TC) и 4 (CG) with SST 09843-18040 (simple wire)
(3) Pull codes by Check Engine lamp blinks

Do you have a decoder chart or something? Are these generic P codes or manufactuer codes? This is interesting I will have to look into it.

I have the Amazon Bluetooth adapter and Torque on my Droid 2. A little laggy for watching data streams but it works for pulling codes.
They are manufacturer codes (short codes, 2 digits).
I have a pdf from RM1017E, but it is on russian. I dont find an english version, may be you can find.
There is an example on page 05-12. The picture on this page shows how lamp is blink when codes 12 and 31 detected. (0.5с and 1.5c means 0.5second and 1.5seconds) On page 05-11 the lower picture shows how lamp blinks when no codes detected.
