So I've read through this thread over a period of a few days... and I want to go the LED route, but does the parking lights (stay on at all times, right?) and brake lights with no blinker work with that? I saw Fro-Runner I think poster write up for that and Hrunners is most likely the onle I will follow but I'm really nervouse about sodering, so I prefer to steer clear of anything that requires me to solder, but wanted to know if the LEDs work like that. This looks like a great little mod, and am excited to get all the parts and do it... just not sure if it would be worth it for me to go LED. I also liked trd4runners look with the honda sockets but I want a difference in light intensity when I brake.

I did this mod about a month ago. Followed the route of a few different folk with mine.
I'm using the D-Cell LED light and 3157 socket/harness from autolumination, having them wired up to my brake, turn and running lights. I'm using diodes on the brake and turn signal lines.
Baking the lenses open makes for a much easier/cleaner mod. Used silicon and cold shrink/stretch tape to waterproof it all.
I'll try to get a vid up soon of it all working separately. Looks sweet.

Ok cool, yours is actually the way I'm doing it. I just bought the same LEDs I think you did from the autolumination site. The ones I got were 3157, I couldn't find the 4157 but I believe they are interchangeable. What do you mean by the tails instead of the trailer... am I splicing into the wires on the taillights?

Yeah, thats exactly the way I'm doing it. I've been reading Fro-Runners write-up, and now that I'm starting to get the pieces in my hands, its making more and more sense. But I'm not sure where on the tail lights you connect the male end pins. I haven't opened it up yet, as I'm still waiting on my LEDs to come in the mail, but is it pretty obvious where the ends plug into? I know its been awhile but do you remember about where on the back of the light housing I should be looking at? Or is it where all the wires that the light housing connect to the car that I should be looking at?
Also... I don't know if you picked up all the same parts as Fro-Runner,but when you are soldering the wires to the socket, for the female connector part 85335, when you are soldering the wire, you solder the wire to the 'wide open end' of the metal slide right? And then you plug the 'skinny closed end' into the back of the female socket part and push in the white part...right? Also, did you solder the male slide ends to the other end of the wire, and did you have to trim them as well as fro-runner did? And all really soldering is is just kind of electrical welding right, just making sure the wire stays attached to connectors and that they provide good contact?

It's been quite some time since I did this mod, but I believe you have it correct. The wires get soldered to the wide open end and the skinny end get pushed into the female part of the plug.
Also, I just spliced into the wires that go into the back of the taillight. I used the type of splice connector that you squish down with a pair of pliers.

I've used connector on the back of the taillight and slide the pin into the correct place, then zip-tie it to prevent sliding off.

I just cut the **** out of my finger cutting the little plastic prongs on the light housing. Blood flow is impressive! While I'm applying pressure I'd thought I'd maximize my time and post this question. I have my tail lights out, but I don't see where I connect the wiring from my bumper light to the tail housing. I prefer not to go the spilicing route if at all possible. But I just don't see where I'm going to connect the wiring to make it light up.

Oh Sorry Alex, I figured it out, I wasn't sure which color wire was brake or tail as far as green w/yell or green w/gray, but I just toyed around till I got it. Yeah I left the vent cap on, and I sealed the crap out of the housing, and I drove for an hour yesterday, and there was no heat at all on the lens. This mod looks GREAT with the stock lamps, but Alex, how do you like it with the LED tails. I'm toying with picking those up as I saw your mod thread. There was no issue with your bumper lights working with your LED tails were there?

Help with Rear Fog Mod & Bulb Help

I would like to add the rear lens mod, but I only want it for the rear fog option; I don't need to hook it up to my tails.
What would be the best way to complete the mod?
Aslo, I upgraded my tails to the newer tails and was thinking about upgrading the bulbs..
Is there a bulb (led based) that I can get for the turn signals? Also this red led bulb you mentioned in another post (led based) would that work for the rear high mounted stop light?
Now that I have updated the tails, the high mount looks a little plain, I thought putting an led bulb would make it look a lilttle better.. lol..
