Question - 2012 SR5 OEM Mud Guards

Question regarding OEM mud guards in a 2012 4Runner SR5. There are a couple threads explaining install, which is pretty straightforward from the 2011 instructions, however on the front there is a liner in place that it appears you need to remove? On the rear it's clear it stays in place but I'm unclear on the front.

Once the new guards are in place it doesn't quite look right in the wheel well. Also, the "plate" you install the guard to is pretty flimsy without the original liner.

I've attached a picture of the mud guard installed on the front D/S.

Then a picture of the front P/S showing the liner still in place before the mud guard is installed. For anyone who has installed these, is this correct? Or should the front liner stay in place. If it stays in place it hangs over the guard in a weird way. It appears the front liner is different in the 2011 vs. 2012, there is a prior thread with photos of the install on the 2011 and it appears the liner stays in place, but it isn't as long as the one in the 2012 and stops at the bottom of the body.

Am I missing something or did I do it right?

"Question... Am I missing something or did I do it right?"

Hi bodhi,

I have them on my 2012 L.E.. IIRC, the small liner goes 'underneath' the new mud guard. If you try that and it doesn't look right, perhaps I'm mistaken and I did remove it; I have a ton of liners and flaps in the closet that were removed from the truck when I installed the bull-bar and other accessories... "I'll go take a look and get right back to you", regards!

Okay bodhi,

I just looked at mine and the small liner goes 'on-top' of the mud-guard! It sits close to the 'inside' of the wheelwell ..."looks just fine that way". cheers

Thank you! Went back out and popped 'em back on. Thanks again for your help!

Hey! How-about a look at the WHOLE truck; not just the fender? "...We really enjoy seeing pictures of other people's 4runners around here ya' know!" lol

Best to you!
