Question about spacers

Considering throwing in a spacer to level the front out and run 275/70/17s rather than the 265/70/17s.

Question for those of you with spacers on trail editions.

Did you have to adjust the kdss after installing the spacer?

Also, did you need to do the yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero calibration.?

How much mpg/kmL do you think i'd lose by running the 275s vs the 265s?

my original understanding was that spacers do not change the suspension geometry and maintains original ride quality thus does not require the kdss being adjusted or the zero calibration on sensors.

thanks folks.

also, there is debate on which spacers to order. Could you recommend the correct spacer to level out the truck? i'd preferably like to order from toytec.

I got the Toytec front level spacers. Not at my computer, so don't have a link, sorry.

I didn't do anything with the KDSS or yaw etc. I don't think it changed things enough for that to matter.

I think I lost mpg by getting 50lb each load E tires, I can't imagine the spacer lift affected it at all.

Regarding alignment, I I'd get it aligned. But the report said it was only 0.3 out anyway, so it probably didn't neeeeeed it. Better safe than sorry on a brand new truck though.

yeah i figured alignment should be done either way.

did you install the spacers your self? and could you post the link to the ones you installed later?

thanks man :D

Yup those are the same ones i got.

(here's a link to the actual post, not sure where that other link was going: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-g...er-s-ideas-since-mid-2010-a-3.html#post754964 )

I had a friend help me, in his shop, with a lift. Made it way easy. The install is a little different if you have KDSS.

I actually just removed the nut from the ball joint in the UCA and that gave enough room on the driver's side to get the shock out. The passenger side was another story though, I ended up disconnecting the KDSS sway bar at the LCA, and the ball joint on the UCA. That gave enough to get it out. Used a spring compressor, or two, to change the bolts out.

Putting it back was just the reverse, except for the sway bar. There are some tips in the TIS manual, the basics are that you jack up the sway bar on the driver's side under the KDSS shock, and that should line up the passenger side so you can put the bracket back on the LCA. That last part is a PITA, but the whole thing took less than 3 hours I think, and we were taking our time.

Very few of us have had to do the Yaw Rate and Acceleration ... Calibration. Just drive it around and if you think the stability control kicks in "way more" often than before, calibrate it.

Tires will affect mileage but all depends on type of tire and weight. (Mud Terrain vs. All Terrain). I had 61# Firestone Destination M/T (mud terrain) Load E tires, just sold them, bought 61# Falken Load D All Terrain Tires and just driving a couple miles I can tell my 4Runner rolls easier and my average mpg's have increased as well.

Spacers kinda change the geometry, your lifting the front so your control arms are at different angles. Your ride quality will be about the same as stock with just spacers vs new shocks.
