Question on exhaust replacement

Hey gang -

I need to replace at least part of my exhaust. The hanger broke off of the resonator, which was installed by Bubba, to put it mildly. So I'm looking at cat-back sytems to replace the whole thing because it's pretty ugly. I looked at the FlowMaster cat-back system on Amazon for $529 which looks pretty good. I also looked at individual parts from Rockauto or NAPA which would be a LOT cheaper. My question is, if I just bought a FlowMaster muffler, what PIPE(S) would I get to attach it to (assuming I replace what's on there). All mufflers I see come with the bent pipe and the outlet pipe already on. Is this possible? Or would I have to take it to a muffler shop. I'd like to do it myself as I have the tools. I thought getting a Flowmaster (or Magnaflow for that matter) would be nice and give it a little sound. I have the V6 by the way. The tail pipe I could just get from NAPA.

Hey Jim,
Have you checked out the Gibson Lineup? I just recently purchased mine and man it definitely wakes up my V8. I understand you have the V6 but I have Youtube'd The Gibson CBE on the 4th Gen V6 and it sounds great as well, and it wont cost you 500, or 400 dollars....
 
Wow! $357 for the base (not SS) system. Not bad. Also made in USA which is a plus.

How is the sound on these? I don't want it real loud, maybe a little over stock sound.

ok, actually $255 for the Gibson 18707! (Amazon). Not bad. This is looking like a real contender. Also a good comment about it.

Actually, I believe the Aluminized steel for your application is going for about $290. shipped Right now over at StreetSideAuto.com.. I believe they are out of stock for it but you can email them/call them...

I have the V8 in mine with the Gibson cat back, and I love it. Gives it a great rumble, low drone, and as was stated it gives some serious pep to the motor. Go for the Gibson, you won't be disappointed.
 
Probably be cheaper to get a new tailpipe like from Walker and a universal muffler, I think a Magnaflow would sound best on a V6 since the longer ones have a smooth, mellow sound.

I have a 14" case Magnaflow on my V8, great sound but drones too much for the wife. I've used them on other trucks, usually the 18" but with the 2.5" pipe and 2 cats I figured 18" would be too quiet and in my opinion it would've been. I think an 18" or 22" would sound good on a V6, a low smooth tone that won't draw much attention.

I'm considering switching the Magnaflow out for a Hooker Aerochamber, i've got a couple laying around I bought for the Mustang I sold.
 
Ordered it last night from Amazon... waiting for delivery now! I'll take some pics of the existing setup for some laughs.
