question on jack stands, rear vs front

Hey guys,

While doing my diff and tcase fluids recently, I noticed the jack stand points on the rear (rear axles) are lower than the jack points on the front (there are many areas to use jack stands in the front, but all of them I measured were higher as well) - stock suspension all around.

For fluid swaps, one side being higher than the other sounds like a bad idea.

Do any of you place your rear jack stands higher than the front stands to compensate for the difference? Or do I just sound looney?

I jack up the rear a bit higher when doing the gear oil, so that I can over fill slightly.

Yeah, I don't use a jack for the rear. For the front I will drive up onto ramps.

Not for the rear, no. But if you jack the front while the rear stays on the ground, I dont see how drains would be even/complete... (tranny, oil, diff).

I just laid on the creeper to do mine. No jacking or ramps required.

But to the original question, yes, you can safely jack the rear and front to different heights to keep the vehicle level.

Do you have to jack up your truck to change those fluids? I don't, and I'm a big fat sunnuva*****.

I don't have to lift it up off the ground at all.

just lay under it.

If I Change my diff fluids, I'm pulling the entire thing apart and cleaning the housing while I'm at it.
