Question re: installation of backup camera

I just replaced the HU in my 2006 Limited w/ JBL (no nav). Everything went great due to the fine people on this forum. My question now is, I'm getting ready to install the backup camera and I have a question about how to wire up the power. Most places have it tapping in to the reverse light power. That's great and all but do i need to find a different 12V source if my head unit (Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS) has the ability to switch to the backup camera while you are driving (without the gear selector being in reverse). That's what makes logical sense to me. If the answer is yes, can anyone suggest a good point to tap into or do i need to run a power wire along with the RCA cable for the cam all the way to the front.

Thanks in advance.

The answer is a logical YES if you want the ability to turn the camera on whenever you want. Not sure if there is a constant wire back there, otherwise break out the voltmeter probe around the cabin fuse box for a constant (preferably a switched) wire. Check the wire bundle for the rear window (?)

Good luck

run the camera line from the radio to under the drivers side dash, up the a pillar and down the driver's side of the headliner. then to the rear dome light. take it out so you can get to the rear boot for the wires that go into the tailgate.

while you run that, check to see how your camera powers on.it might need a ignition controlled power source. if it does run a wire to the camera while you ran that rca wire from the radio to the back.

while you are running the camera to the drivers side under dash run a wire from the purple reverse wire on the pioneer to the bottom left of the fuse box. 16 pin connector red/yellow wire is the reverse trigger. this way you dont need to run a wire to the reverse tail light bulb. simple run od a rca down the top of the headliner to the rear.

its more complicated to read my instructions than you doing it.

also since you are running stuff thru the boot of the tail gate. its a PITA to get thru, you might want to consider running a extra pair of wires thru for stuff like this

Thanks for the help, I'll let you know how it goes.
