So I'm slowly considering getting a CB radio. I had a few questions.

How hard is the install? I'm guessing it's like an install for an HU.

What is the range of most CBs?

Depends on how you install. If you just install it directly to the battery (like i did) its easy. All you have to do is attach the two wires to the battery, run it through the firewall to your cb.

If you're looking to do something like having your handheld mic come from another area then thats a different story. Just do a search. I know you can't search "CB" so do "CB*" and you should find some answers. There is a ton of write ups on how you can install a CB

Guess it depends where you want to install the head unit and antenna.

My no-drill install took about 3 hours, including at least half an search here on the forum how to remove parts of the interior.

I mounted the antenna to my rack (rear center) and ran a separate ground. Then ran the wire through the back hatch and along the interior and mounted the CB on the passenger side of the center console. It was an 18' cable which was perfect, but if it was going to go to the main center console it wouldn't have been enough.

If you are concerned about range, you should consider HAM. The only thing is though, if the people you run with are on CB, then you kinda have to go with that. Here's a decent discussion on the two:

EDIT: With all that being said, I am getting a CB (shopping right now for the one I want) since the people I will be running with have CB, and I go on a lot of road trips, where CB (especially with the weather channels) is nice to have.
