Quoted $1500 for front Bearings 2004 4Runner

So, I live in California. Went to the dealer to get some recall work done, but also have had the front bearings issue for 2 months.

This is a Toyota Dealer.

Quoted $1500 for the pair. Down from $2100.

Would anyone do just one. Should I pull the car and give someone else a chance for less or do I just eat and move on?

Hear they may be overcharging me $500 or so, and no I cannot do this myself. I am a yuppie living in silicon valley with a love of 4 runners.

if you have basic hand tools and a simple knowledge of front end parts you could replace both fronts for under $400. if you don't, i would still buy the wheel bearing and hub assemblies from [MENTION=100129]nj636[/MENTION] and take them to an independent shop that you trust, and you should be out the door for under $600 i would think. its not a difficult job

If you do some searching here, you can find bearings installed with doorman hubs, for about $170 each. Order up 2 of those and take it to any mechanic, it is an easy job, probably under 2 hours labor.

$1500 is way too much. Bought both wheel hubs with bearings and installed it myself for $340.

I would recommend the same as others have said. Buy them yourself from your chosen supplier and have your chosen shop install them.

Or find a friend or buddy that can assist or install them for you.

Dealers are just way overpriced in my opinion.

There is a shop in Sacramento that I trust and recommend for family and friends. They are very honest and reputable.

It is T.O.S. on Auburn Blvd. they may give you a quote over the phone.

The hub and bearing assys are preassembled, it's a breeze to replace (besides the irritatingly tight axle nut).

Yeah... I'd want to look at a parts list/labor break down because $1500 is just ridiculous for 2 wheel bearings and an alignment...

Agreed. I ordered them from the vendor here and paid $160 in labor (2 hours) to do both assemblies
