I had a fan clutch that froze up on me last year. I replaced it and the new one made as much noise as the one I replaced. Finally after replacing it with 3 other warranty fans I went to a salvage yard and found a Toyota fan clutch from a pristine (rollover) 94 Runner. The motor had been picked and the fan was propped up on the wheel well waiting for me.
I paid the guy $20, slapped it on and it doesn't make a peep. I took the other clutch back to Oreilly and was refunded my $75. I was expecting store credit, or really, nothing at all. But they took care of it for me.
I went back a few days later to pick up some other goodies I saw, and it was gone. There was a roof rack with a thule rack attached to it, the wing that goes over the rear window, a nice black front wrap around bumper. It even had the scoop valance that fits over the front of the sunroof…… I was bummed.
Gotta learn to keep a secret $100 bill in my Runner.
