Radio does not sync with iPod any more

So after my wife bought me an iPOD 2 years ago, I finally got around to plugging it into my rig. It worked great for two weeks, but now, the radio will not recognise the iPOD. The iPOD does not show when I select an audio input, and the screen on the iPOD is active - it behaves like its not even plugged into the radio.

Any ideas what might be going on?

Hi there! Thanks for jumping in. I am using the USB Port. I had not considered the Aux Port...I guess I would need to get a different cable...but I am still wondering why the USB port is no longer working...

My phone connection had been acting up lately and I finally had to unlink the Bluetooth audio and the phone on both ends and set up as new.
Since you're on USB I'm assuming you don't have BT on your iPod. One thing I've found odd with USB devices is that they might not be recognized unless you connect to your device first and then to the USB port. You might want to try that if you haven't already.

Try unplugging the iPod then resetting it. Before plugging it back into the car select the radio input then back to Aux.

If you want to LOOSE functionality, use the AUX port. USB is better and integrated. I use mine via USB daily.

Is your iPod recognized by iTunes? If not, your screwed with an iPod issue. If it is recognized, read on.

With the key out of the ignition, vehicle off, unplug the iPod and the iPod USB cable from the vehicle. Assume nothing. Now do a hard reset on the iPod. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204307 Wait for the Apple logo to come up and finish the start up. Now, shut off the iPod. Plug in the USB cable into the 4Runner. Plug the other end of cable into the iPod. Start or turn the key to the full on position and go to the audio settings. Does it see your iPod? If not try a different cable or the one that worked with iTunes.

If that still doesn't work, can you try a FAT formatted USB thumb drive with a couple of mp3's on it to see if the audio can see it. If it can't see the thumb drive then it might be your vehicle's USB port.

Let us know what worked.

I honestly have no idea how those Apple stuff work (do they even sell iPods still? I though the iPhone replaced that stuff?) But usually the first thing I ask a customer is whether or not their device is updated to the newest version (I think it's 8.whatever the hell iOS is on now?) as that's typically the first thing in a list of possibilities that comes to mind.

I have no idea how a single update to Entune or the headunit somehow causing so much issues with Bluetooth and USB and such, but sometimes a simple update of the device and/or headunit works.

These days my favorite saying is becoming:

OK, I finally got this figured out. BTW, I did reset the radio and then plugged a USB Drive into the USB port, but the radio would still not recognize the USB drive or the iPod. The USB drive did not have any music on it (just some PowerPoints)...

Anyway, I performed a reset of the iPod, and tha solved the problem. I just unplugged the iPod from the cable (which I left connected to the USB port), then plugged the cable back in, and everything works fine!

Not sure why this happened, but I'd like to thank everyone for the help. Hopefully, this will help someone else out also!
