Radio Upgrades... Let see them.

I am interested in getting one of the newer Joying Android Head units or maybe some other android unit.

Will they work with the JBL system with all 9 speakers?

I did, I went with these

however I returned them. After plugging it all in and it all set up all the speakers worked but the sound quality wasn't good. Even though I am an audiophile, it definitely lacked the sound quality the stock head unit produced. I don't know if it was the head unit or the JBL converter thing. At low volume it sounded fine but it would only go half as loud as the factory unit, and when I would turn it up the speakers were sounding staticky and crackly even though it wasn't loud. I have some loud M/T tires on my vehicle with sound deadning in the doors and I could hear the music around town okay, but on the highway it was just low tunes playing in the background.

Did you try an audio app? I myself am using PowerAmp and it has far more settings than the default setup. Also, if you contact the Joying tech support they are pretty good at responding and helping.

I saw you bought the hu through Amazon. I would recommend going to their site carjoying.com because you can buy the same hu usually $20 cheaper and the site has constant kernel updates available free.

I have been running a DD 4.4.4 system in my MR2 for about 2 years wired up to a 4 channel amp and a mono amp pushing 10 speakers and loving it. I set my phone as a WiFi hotspot and can run any app I need. The only issue I have had is every once in a while the speakers get staticky and I reboot it with no problems. Also, if I use the default nav app for over an hour it causes the hu to freeze up. I have to power off the ignition to get it to reset and have since switched to a better offline nav app anyway with no problems.

I have had a great experience with these head units. I ma not using the amp though I have a separate amp for the subs and mids. Android head unit is the way to go. It's so powerful on its functions.

You're getting bad reception because only one half of the antenna is plugged into the radio.

I got the Pioneer AVH-X3800BHS. Trying to have my ducks in a row ahead of time - will this adapter be necessary for my unit, as well?

I did contact joying and they were doing their best to help me. They were wanting me to do a software update, however I was having problems with that too. I didn't have much time to work on it as I was leaving for school so I returned it and decided I might try again this summer when I have more time.

I have a 4th gen, 2006 SR5. Pardon my ignorance I have been in the Ford Bronco game for the past decade and am still getting accustomed to the ways of Toyota.

Having not been behind the stereo yet, I am having trouble visualizing how this adapter works. Do both wires of the factory antenna twist into this adapter which plugs into the back of the new head unit?

Edit: sounds like I will need that adapter as well as a Metra UV43

I ordered the Pioneer AVH-X3800BHS.

My requisites for a new head unit were:
1. Bluetooth capability
2. RDS
3. HD Radio tuner
4. AUX/USB

If you live in a metro area and listen to commercial radio often, an HD radio tuner is well worth the extra money.

OEM radio questions for the experts ...

Hope you guys can help me out ...

2009 Toyota 4runner 4.0L SR5. OEM radio just went. Well, the AUX button just went. I can't plug in my iPhone to play music thru the speakers anymore because the button is unresponsive.

I was thinking of getting the same exact radio again thru eBay. But i see there are several different model numbers.

My OEM radio, on the front, has the model number 11823 on it. Do i need to stick to that model number only when searching for a replacement?

Please give me some advice. What model numbers will work? Should i pay attention to the model numbers when looking?

Some of the numbers i'm seeing on ebay: P1802, 11833.

And if there is a thread i missed that has this info already, please link me to it.

OR should i buy an aftermarket instead? If so, I would like to have the ability to connect the iPhone wirelessly to play music. But do NOT need to take and receive phone calls thru the bluetooth/speakers/microphone setup. If you have any advice in that regard i would appreciate it.

If you have the radio controls on your steering wheel, I think you can still use the Mode button to cycle through the inputs to get to Aux. That would tie you over until you get a new radio.

Poweramp app helps a lot but not enough. I don't think the down grade in sound quality is due to the Joying unit as much as the JBL integration. Either way it's good enough for now until I upgrade the amps and speakers through out.

Android units are really good all the same.

Basically put the adapter on the small antenna wire and put it into one of the two female ports on the Y adapter, then put the other antenna into the other female port. The single male end goes in the HU.

Agreed. I run my Joying HU through a 4 channel amp for the component speakers and a mono amp for the subs.

My experience with the Toyota JBL systems in the past is to immediately replace all the speakers and bypass/remove the factory amps as quickly as possible. On the whole they are over priced junk. The sound quality is sub par to even entry level after market equipment. I was happy when I discovered my 4Runner had the base audio system so I wouldn't have to hunt down the factory amps and reroute all the wiring. Lol.
