Radio Upgrades... Let see them.

I also was astonished by the size of the harness that goes with the maestro and the thing should really have all connections on one side and labeled in any way for easier cramming in there of the completed harness.If it was laid out differently it would be easy to slide into an empty space.
I had to call a few times to just understand the connections which were entirely without labels of any kind on mine?
How can there be no labels and no manual for something like this?
I also got no connection drawing for the radio at all?
And yes the nag screen is annoying and pointless to me for sure.

I picked up Joying JY-UM138P2 (8 inch detachable) screen and so far mine, the screen is backwards. I tried resetting the ribbons and no luck, so I ordered another one. My Joying suggestion at the moment is use Amazon Prime for ease of obtaining/returning. Ill keep you guys posted with mine.
I like the fit and finish...screen is nice (even though its backwards) and the steering wheel controls work.

Pretty happy so far. If I had to do it over, I would probably get the single din box so the adapters had an easier home.

Also curious about this and if the steering wheel controls were ever figured out. Looking into this unit since I'll be driving all over and sometimes with no cell signal so having Sirius/XM would be nice, even tho its heavily compressed.
Sorry about this, I just saw this update in my inbox. No the unit only supports the data based radios (pandora / spotify) and digital radio. No XM or Sirius since its an Australian / Asian model radio.

I've tried searching for the past month for the parts needed for installing a headunit in my 2007 limited 4runner replacing a JBL non-RDS headunit, and the answers are just not clear.
Could someone specify which parts I will need to retain the JBL System, besides the Steering wheel control?

if you want a good radio signal.
Other than that.... my only advice would be to not buy a Joying head unit. I have one right now, and it has broken twice in 7 months.

Yea, I won't be putting a joying unit in... I have a 4000NEX that's sitting in my WRX, and since I DD the 4runner, I figure I'll just put the OEM HU back into my subaru and throw the 4000NEX into my 4r.

Big money but if I were to do it again I might go this route. It's not as elegant as the Kenwood DDX917ws / DDX617wbt but it has all the bells for North America including XM radio / HD radio. And as far as it being larger than the opening in the dash, it would have bothered me 5 years ago but nowadays, seems like this is the look with new cars. My new Civic has this type of screen on the dash, the new Miata, new BMWs, and Audis all have a tablet like screen on the dash. Feature list seems great too. Really looks like it brings the car to the 2018 era... May consider this in a few years too or for the IS300 if I don't go with a double din setup for that car. And compared to the DDX917ws I think it may run 200 more? Definitely not for the faint of heart and I will have wait until after I armor and lift the 4runner first... Downside though is that it sticks out for theives to break into your truck / car.

Had a Kenwood DDX6904S installed in my 2004 Limited. The screen is a bit small compared to others I've seen, but I like the way it fit in the factory space. I kept the JBL Synthesis system for now. I usually install this stuff myself, but after reading all the posts on here, I realized I really wanted my steering wheel controls and The JBL to merge for the time being and didn't want to mess with it. I figured I'd bite the bullet and let a pro deal with it all.Couldn't be happier with the work they did. Cost me about $1300 Can. to get it all installed. works flawlessly with my phone, the JBL and the steering wheel controls. The buttons are a bit small and tucked against the edge of the housing so the steering wheel controls are something I wouldn't want to be with out.

I got a Toyota 200mm wide Kenwood DDx917ws from Malaysia. Not available here but the shipping was super quick. Since it’s marketed for Toyota’s it plugs right in. Capacitive touch too. Looks clean but it gets finger printy and the volume is hard to change while driving. I have to use the remote until I can connect the steering controls.
Here’s the radio harness it comes with.
Just plugs right into the stock plugs then to the back of the unit. No need to connect any wires. I’m still working on figuring the steering wheel harness.

Does this unit come with built in navigation or back up camera option?
It has a gps antenna but it is used to boost gps signal for your iPhone or android phone. Navigation is through CarPlay / Android Auto. It has both dash and back up cam capability.
I just discovered this link regarding the steering wheel connections so maybe there might be an easier fix.

So... what headunit trim kit are you guys using if you have the oem headunit I have included and have an aftermarket headunit with a folding screen(Pioneer 4100NEX)?
I've already gone through 2 trim kits and both weren't correct.
Metra 95-8210, this trim kit doesn't accept folding screen headunits...
Metra 95-8202. this trim kit is about 1-2cm short, width wise, to cover the holes...

Well...I have the 95-8202 here and will be trying it. If it doesn't work it'll go back to Amazon. Maybe it differs for different radio brands? What brand are you putting in? I'm going to be putting a Pioneer in. Maybe they are a bit wider than Kenwoods or shorter so it doesn't fit the gap as much? Won't know till I try.

AFAIK, all brands use the same dimensions for the box, that holds the brains of the radio. So mount's wouldn't be a problem.
I'm putting in a Pioneer 4100NEX. What will differ is the front panel, as I have a folding screen, so it's a hair bit bigger on the front, than a headunit that has a screen that doesn't.
Also, I've noticed that some 4runners have an oem dash kit that works with the 95-8202, while some others need something a bit wider than the 95-8202...

What dash kit is that? It looks like it's been forcefully placed or modified to fit the headunit...?
