Radio Upgrades... Let see them.

Kenwood DDX 371. Amazing value for the money, Sirius, bluetooth streaming and phone as well as USB. Love this deck, it can be kind of slow on the uptake connecting to the phone automatically but it always does.

Anyone here use the pac audio RP4.2-TY11? This is a newer module that has nav steering wheel control and the jbl synthesis harness all in one. I installed this with a pioneer avic8100nex in my 2004 sport and have been having issues with the sound cutting out on me randomly. Once it cuts out it does not come back until the car is turned off.

Did you ever get this resolved?

New member here, just purchased a 2004 Limited to join the club! I used the PAC RP4.2-TY11 harness recently to keep the factory JBL Synthesis amp and steering wheel controls. LOTS of wires going everywhere, especially with my radio which had a bunch of video outs. The connectors on the harness aren't the best, and I found that any slight tug would disconnect it. Had a hard time fitting everything into the dash and ended up taping the connectors to the harness to keep it secure. No problems since then, works perfectly! If you do go this route, I found that only 2 of 4 Toyota factory connectors are used (the only two that fit the harness connectors).

Has anyone swapped out the 4th gen stock head unit with a smaller aftermarket one and put a cb underneath it? Ive search a little bit with no luck yet but it must have been done.

So, there are two connections from the car side that aren't used? The PAC adaptor is overwhelmingly covered in wires and connections. Ugh.

I just want to know if a kenwood touchscreen/dvd receiver fits. So I can put one in mine

Yes.

kenwood ddx6702s. apple car play and dvd reciever. bought it last year, so im sure there is a newer model out. and tbh, i dont even use the cd/dvd drive, and i think some of the newer models come without it. but apple car play is the best. feels like i threw out the only "old" part of my truck by putting carplay in it.

oh, and i chose this deck not only cuz of carplay, but because it has a volume KNOB. big deal for me. i like to actually TURN my shit up

Edit - took a better pic

Any body running something with "Siri Eyes Free" Siri control? I can't afford something with CarPlay, so this seems like the next best thing. Im looking for a double din under $250, with Bluetooth and backup camera input. I see a few JVC and Kenwood options on crutchfield but don't which to pick. Thanks for any suggestions .

Yeah, buts it's obvious when you actually get in there and install it which plugs are used and which aren't. The biggest issue I had was what to do with all of the blue remote wires... the answer was connect them all together.

CB should fit, maybe with a little creative dremel tool action, I jammed a scanner in no problem.

I am interested in getting one of the newer Joying Android Head units or maybe some other android unit.

Will they work with the JBL system with all 9 speakers?

I am considering one of these.

If you want the OEM look (and I mean perfect fit), get the first. Check back for my posts here and my build for installed pics. The higher resolution would be nice though but I'm not sure how that larger screen would look installed as it appears to be one in which the screen protrudes from the dash.

Yes....I installed a Kenwood ddx374bt last weekend.....To wire it all up, I used the CRUX SWRTY-61S kit.

Does anyone know if JVC units can simply run the parking brake wire to ground to see video at all times? I just ordered the JVC KW-V320BT. Not that I will ever watch video while driving, but just trying to make the install a little easier.

Radio Upgrade

I just started my replacement effort. Have a 2008 4runner with Urban Runner trim. Purchased a Pioneer AVIC 8100Nex, but I think I am receiving the 8200 because the 8100 is not available from the vendor. Talked to the nice people at Cruchfield but they could not get the 8100. I am adding a PAC SWI-RC steering wheel controls unit (which is very hard to figure out wiring). Also adding a SiriusXM. Nothing installed yet but have Tomtom unit removed.

I learned yesterday, much to my dismay, that the volume for my fave Christmas CD on the stock HU is barely audible! :mmph:

Not to hijack the thread, but I installed a Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT Navi in the Runner a week ago. Even though I have the PAC SWI-PS for the steering wheel controls, I notice they dont light up any more. Does anyone know which wire powers them? This is on the JBL system btw.

EDIT: After looking through the FSM wiring diagrams, it looks like the steering wheel illumination for the JBL system is on pins 12+ (white-green wire) and 2- (green wire). For the non-JBL its on pins 5+ (white-green wire) and 10- (green wire)
