I would return the SWI-RC and get the SWI-PS instead. the RC is meant as a universal unit whereas the PS is Pioneer (among others) specific.

Thanks I am having the local audio store do the install. Should be a couple hundred bucks but more than worth it to me. I just don't have the time or space to do it comfortably myself.

Yes, I did that in my prior 4Runner. When I got stuck in LA traffic-hell, I would just put a DVD in and sort of watch (mostly listen tbh) to keep me from wanting to kill people.
Don't watch Blackhawk Down while stuck in traffic. DAMHIK :laugh:
I am still not sure because there is one plug of three coming from the 4runner that seems to need a mate, but none are to be had in the PAC.

As a Christmas Present to myself I installed a Bluetooth radio in my non-JBL 2003. I am not a fan of touchscreen units, I'm not really sure why everyone likes them so much. They are 3x as expensive, and the interface is usually cheap and annoying. So I went with a mid-level dual din Kenwood like I had in my 3rd gen. It has variable color lighting and looks great in the dash. (Looks bad in these pictures with the flash on but looks good in person.) Pleased with the sound so far. Total price $195 with the extras.
Purchased from Crutchfield which included the wiring harness, dash kit, and steering wheel controls. Turns out that the radio came with a Toyota trim piece already in the box so I didn't need to dash kit, but I ended up breaking it during installation so I did end up using the extra dash kit... glad I bought it.
Although I've installed 4 stereos before, this install was kind of a pain in the butt. Mostly because of the steering wheel controls. Definitely worth it though.
The car has some Sony Xplods from the previous owner but I plan to eventually replace the front speakers with nicer 6x9 components and power them with a higher power amp using the stereo's RCA outputs (this stereo puts out 22 watts x4 RMS, which is pretty good, but 75 will be better).
I wish this car had the factory subwoofer so I could stuff a nice 8 inch-er in there. Might end up getting a slim under-seat powered sub. Can't spare my trunk space for a big system.

not bad for the price, but 40 more and you could of got the pioneer avh-x3800bhs, but since you hate touch screen so much. its a nice unit, wanting to do a touch screen now on my own truck, but I don't want to give up on the awesome eq the deh-80prs has.

Assuming you have the correct PAC, you are safe to leave it unplugged if it doesn't have a corresponding recipient on the PAC wiring harness. It doesn't seem like enough wires and connectors but it works.

Yessir. It's a AVH-X2800BS. Love it so far. Sounds great, all the functions were easy to figure out and the phone mode sounds, according to everyone I have called, as though I'm not on a Bluetooth. Vast improvement over my old JVC. Super easy install too.
Did you do a steering wheel adapter with it?

i would still return this and pay the extra 30 for the 3800 model. hd radio sounds so good. its not too late :wink2:

I did not take any pictures of the install, sorry. I figured someone would have done one by now.
I bought it from Crutchfield and ordered it with their wiring harness with the adapter for the steering wheel controls. You just connect Crutchfield's harness to the radio's harness (I tinned and shrink-wrapped the connections) and you're good to go. It was really very simple with Crutchfield's directions.
I didn't know about that version. Bummer. It is too late though, I threw away the box and the new radio is installed. Besides, 90% of the time I listen to my playlists, Apple radio or Pandora which all sound amazing.

Missed this. Yes I did. Crutchfield offered two wiring harnesses, one with and one without the steering wheel controls. I got the one with. I think it was $20 more.
I also got the telephone buttons and added them to my steering wheel. The new radio truly functions like the stock one with the buttons.
