Radio Upgrades... Let see them.

Also went with the Pioneer 2300NEX, and luckily had the TomTom GPS face plate.

Just my opinion, I hate the screen format of the pioneers.. no order to it. The screens look like the background of a 80’s Nagle print. I love Pioneers in general but I had to go with an Alpine ilx207 because it was more ordered in rows and columns without sweepy background graphics for my old age onset OCD.

I got the Sony XAV-AX200 and I'm now a huge fan. I integrated it with an idatalink Maestro which integrates with my JBL well and is awesome. The only thing it doesn't do well is adjust bass.

It's got 3 camera inputs. I've been meaning to add a front camera, just don't know how to actually run it yet. But my steering wheel controls can bring up any camera on command which is sweet.

They also just updated the software to where I could change color of the buttons which allowed me to match the factory color well enough.

Wait you were able to install an aftermarket head unit and didn't have to replace all the OEM JBL speakers?

Interesting...

Seems pretty simple to me, all your basic menu items are on the bottom, apple/android auto is standard format. I would have preferred the volume knob the Sony has but when I purchased this they didn't have a model where you could match the stereo led color to the vehicles so I went Pioneer.

So I like this radio and want to do the same upgrade. A couple questions.

idatalink Maestro doesn't list any Sony as being compatible. How did you figure out it would work?

Does your OEM back-up camera work?

The Sony XAV-ax100 worked, and the 200 is a more recent model, so I took a chance. I set it up as an ax100 with no problems. Although recently they added it, because I reflashed it, and the 200sxm is now an option.

Where it doesn’t work is the OBD2 monitoring. That was a disappointment. There are no sony’s that compatible with that feature.

I installed an aftermarket camera so I don’t know.

Hey guys, been looking to get an upgrade on the stereo and want Apple Carplay as well as backup camera. The installation guy I’m talking to is pushing this: https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/DVD+Receivers/AVH-2440NEX but I found this sony: https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-car-stereos-with-apple-carplay-and-android-auto/

Any recommendations either way?

I have the ax200. It’s the upgraded version over the ax100. It has 2 additional camera inputs, xm, custom led color lights, and dvd capability. I’m very pleased with mine, although Sony is releasing another version which appears the same as the 200 but is maestro rr datalink compatible. One thing I really like about my Sony is the look and the volume knob. The volume knob however is very thin, and the screen is smaller than the pioneer.

I can’t imagine you’ll notice a difference in sound quality so go with functionality and features.

My stereo has been looking like this for the last couple of weeks or so. I can't get the MicroBypass to work. I have 2 MicroBypass switches, and neither of them seem to work. I ordered a "DiyBypass", so we'll see if that works.

I'm connecting to an older Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS.

Looks right to me. I had to button everything up just to drive it. I'm dry-fitting things to see if I can get it to work.

Have you looked at the iDatalink Maestro?

It's a really slick solution.

Which product are you referring to?

I have the iDatalink Maestro SW - but that's just a steering wheel control interface. I didn't get the Maestro RR due to the 4Runner being a 2004.

I went with the kenwood ddx6705s, I looked at the same head units, the sony were nice but didn't have the waze app (not a big fan of google maps)and the screen was smaller, the pioneer had the same apps as the kenwood, but I find the touch screen has a little lag to it, seems like the kenwood had a faster processor

The Sony XAV-AX200 has both Carplay and Android Auto. Both include Waze and Google Maps. You don't need the App native to the head unit. I have the Sony in my 4Runner along with the PAC RP4.2-TY11 steering control and a rear cam and everything works great.

The only complaint would be that the volume knob on the Sony is small and very close to the edge of the bezel (Metra 95-8210). With the steering wheel controls that doesn't matter a ton.

The Kenwood looks like a really nice unit also.

Radio station static

I replaced my factor unit with Pioneer 8200NEX. In order to fix the 2 into 1 antenna cable problem, I used the Y adapter. However my radio has serious static problems and fails to connect to stations I listened to with my factory unit. I've seen a mention regarding powering the amplifier but I'm unsure where this is or how to power it. Any help would be appreciated.
