Rattling windows

This started a while ago but I don't recall it doing this many years ago but when I roll the windows down they rattle like a mofo when you go over bumps and when you close the door with it down the window sounds like its going to shatter.

I googled this problem and looked at non 4Runner specific links and some causes could be dried rubber seals and/or just being loose. Any tips/ideas?

All 3 of my 3rd gens have done this... I always just keep them all the way up, or all the way down. I guess I've got used to it. If you find the answer, that would be sweet. I'd imagine if you just pulled the door apart you'd figure it out pretty quick what needed to be replaced.

Bump. Anyone got some ideas on what can be done. I know fo sho' that they didn't rattle way back when.

Gosh yes mine too! I made a thread about the rear window rattle not too long ago. What I discovered when I removed all the paneling is that the sled that are within the window track somehow become loose overtime. I have meant to go to a junk yard or, god forbid, the stealership to order a replacement part. If I am able to do that soon I will post pictures and what part I ordered.

Supporting arm Rollers have good amount of play in bracket track thus sound emanates from them no way to fix unless you want to pull them off mold tighter ones.
I highly recommend not doing so!
One of mine broke a couple years ago support arms detached from support bracket glass took a tumble thank goodness it didn't break.
I ended up putting together another roller molding it out of hard plastic snapped it tightly to support arm all is well

My rear window shakes/rattles when rolled down as well, really the only noise of its kind that I can hear in my truck. I'd love to find a way to quiet it down, that rear window is rolled down pretty well whenever weather allows.

Can't speak for a T4R but I am also a big BMW guy. BMW's are notoriuos for the window regulator going bad and I have replaced more of them then a care to even think about. But one thing I do notice on almost everyone of them is that the clamp that actually holds the glass to the regulator loosens up over time. When attaching the glass to the new regulator (without over tightening) I have always noticed that it sounds "better" when I close the doors than it did before. I suspect that the T4R has a similar set up and it may well be worth pulling a door panel, re-torquing the windown glass clamps and seeing if it helps. Cheap, easy and may help. If not, didn't loose much in trying it.
