Real World MPG with 5th Gen?

With just over 5k at this point , I'm sitting just around 17/18 . I have never bought a vehicle for me based on fuel . I am lucky enough to have a company vehicle that includes fuel . So .....

here you go, at least I do better than the warden and her Tacoma. she hit a low of 8 mpg during the winter.

edit : 2014 4runner first with 65 fillups, 2012 Tacoma is second with 104 fillups.

My worst tank was around 17.5, I have to look it up to get the exact number. Best tank was just over 20. I average about 18.5. The first full post lift tank was over 19, and this second one is on track to be better.

I'm only using Chevron but I guess I should switch- anyone using brand specific gas?

Really dont get why my mpg is so low..... pretty bummed.

What octane are you using?

FWIW, I noticed during my road-trip in Oct 2014 my fuel mpg dropping once I got into the midwest. In CO, I use 87 octane fuel. Figured that would be fine as I proceeded East. After 4 fill-up's or so, I was pretty bummed at the MPG, so I filled up with 89 octane and repeated for a couple of fill-ups. MPG returned, so for the remainder of the road-trip (til I got back to CO), I filled with 89 octane (i.e., mid-grade fuel) and maintained my usual mpg.

Your results may vary, but that was my experience.

I'm using 87 for now... my next few tanks will be 91 to see how that affects it....

I would also pay attention to whether you're using 100% gas or an ethanol blend. 100% gas should return better mileage.
I was seeing 19mpg mixed stock and since the lift and 255/80 tires it looks like I'm gonna be at 18mpg (all with 100% gas).

If he's re-geared I can totally see it.

Nope, not yet. The math doesn't lie though. Hand calculated it using the same pump, adjusting the % difference in the tire size through the odometer. Unless Toyotas odometers are inherently totally inaccurate from the factory, 16.9ish to 17.5ish (depending on the terrain) has been my average at 70-80mph (normally 70 with passing jolts to 80)

This is all on 95-100% gas

Truck averaged 22.5mpg at 70mph on its 1500 mile journey home from Denver when it was stock.

When mine was stock, I got over 20 without paying attention. After my lift, tires, armor and etc, I get around 16-17. My commute out to Pullman, WA i only got around 15.9/16.2. This was a fair amount due to the 40 mph wind against me for 60 miles or more. But it doesn't bother me. I'll get concerned when I'm only getting 4...

My tires went from 265 to 285 and I stayed the same mileage used per mile. I know that totally didn't make sense (medicine kicking in before bed). What I'm trying to say that back on stock I did 300 miles and physically did 300 miles. New Tires 300 miles and same physically 300 miles. I know it's like only a 1" so not really concerned.

I would love to know what you have done to your rig and the terrain you drive(looking up your build right now). I do hills and curves a lot so I stay around the same for mpg and wish at times I got more, but I traded a high mpg for my 4runner and would NEVER trade it back!

Pictures?

My terrain is 400ft elevation, rolling hills or flat land. When I put my 285/75s on and my lift the fuel milage was largely unchanged. It wasn't until I put the front bumper on and messed with the aerodynamics fhat I experienced the heavy milage loss. As it stands I'm the same weight as stock (unsprung)

lOOKS LIKE I AM GETTING THE WORST OF THE WORST!

13.8 right now on my dash. Has only ever been as high as 13.9. I even calculated it a couple of time to double chech and it was pretty accurate.

But it is all short run.. i live 4 minutes from work and i have 285/70-17 - 3" OME LIFT - baja rack.. blah blah blah

My last 2 tanks were 12.9 and 13.1 mpg respectively. This is well below my avg (around 19+), but it snowed a lot recently. Just a reminder to me of how much environmental conditions can effect your mpg.

I got 18.2 on my most recent tank with mixed city/freeway driving, which is on the high end of normal for me. I just bought a bluetooth ODBII module, so I need to download Torque and see if that reports anything different. I typically get between 325-375 miles per tank. The best I've ever seen was 21.6mpg on a round trip from Reno to Palm Springs of about 1200mi.
