Real World MPG with 5th Gen?

Now @ just over 10k. Lifetime average by math using aCar app, never missed a fill up, is 19.3mpg. Pretty much spot on the EPA estimate.

I wish my truck got half as good mileage as balls I have done the math and I'm getting 10.1 on the highway in cruise control at 75mph

33" tires, more lift, and a big honking air dam on a roof rack tend to make that happen. Especially at 75mph in cruise. Believe me, I know. But I'm at more like 14 and change under those conditions. When I keep it under 65 and drive the hills with my foot instead of the cruise I get more like 18.5

I got just under 19 (18.8) with my 2WD LE over 10K.
I have been averaging (18.2) with my 4WD LE on the first 2K.
Almost all of my driving is I-10 doing 75-85.

Mileage

Have less than 2K on my new SR5 4X4, computer shows 16.3 mpg. mostly around neighborhood driving, and 1 small trip around 300 miles total.

And even without the big air dam on the roof it gets 11

Technique my man. Technique. How quickly you get from 0 to 75 could have some bearing. :becky:

This really has the most to do with it, I believe. If I attempt to accelerate at a rate that I would have believed was reasonable in my previous car in the 4R, I average about 14-15 mpg in my stock Limited (full-time 4WD). If I make an effort to, most of the time, keep the green ECO light on while accelerating in most traffic situations, that goes right up to 16-17 mpg, no exaggeration.

Sure, it's not as fun to accelerate slower, but this isn't exactly a speed machine. lol

About 1000 miles, 3/4 of it pre lift tires, my wife driving 14.7. Post lift logging roads/back roads one tank 14.7. Don't mind a bit, for anyone worried about mileage go talk to your buddies with a lift and tires driving a Jeep, you'll be happy. And if you are worried about milage buy a Prius. As for me I do not drive a pavement princess, I bought a 4Runner because I needed a 4Runner to go where I go!

When my 14 had about 5000 miles on her, I took it from Massachusetts, to Michigan, than to the Grand Canyon, then some 4 wheeling in Moab, and then more 4 wheeling in Colorado (lots of mountains) and up to Leadville which is 12,000 feet in the air, to Kansas, then back to Massachusetts.

6170 miles of very mixed driving averaged 18.2 with a cargo carrier on the roof rack.

This weekend I took her about 1700 miles from Mass to North Carolina and back and averaged 18 down and it rose to 18.2 up, but in all fairness there was a ton of stop and go traffic on the way down and a bit of traffic on the way up. The stop and go was bad, 3 hours to go 10 miles, and then we finally decided to stop in a hotel for the night.

2014 Trail Premium w/ KDSS
It's the wifes car, usually around 18 around town, usually see around 23-24 on the highway.

Took a 250 mile trip this weekend, on the way down it was cruise set at 70 and we got 23.4, on the way back it was stop and go occasionally but mostly cruising around 55-60 and we got 22.9. Highest we've seen on the same trip was 24.6

±19.5 mpg is what I currently get as well (stock). It looks like you dropped ~1.5 mpg with the larger tires.

  • Assuming no lift?
  • Is that adjusted for the ~2% larger tires? (Wouldn't make much of a difference I suppose)
  • Is the general consensus that it is due to tread pattern, ride height, or added unsprung weight?
    • Do folks see a similar drop with lighter C rated tires?
    • What about stock size KO2s?

Completely agree on ethanol. A few years back driving cross country I saw a ±10% increase in mpg in Oklahoma and Texas on pure gas.

Just passed 10k and about 5 months of ownership, I work out of my vehicle, so stop and go with a lot of idling @ 15mpg. I've taken several trips getting around 18 with traffic and ac running. Best so far almost 20 on last trip to Great Wolf with little to no ac.

This is the same avg that I had in a base tacoma 2wd 4 banger, so I'm happy. Hopefully the lift I'm getting ready to install won't impact my #s to badly :drum:

Any AT tire even in a C rating, is going to affect the rolling mass over an all weather tire like the factory Dunlops. You just have more rubber mass and weight to roll. It's why those econobox cars that get such good mileage run 13" skinny tires.
