Rear Air Suspension & X-REAS

I am looking at getting a new 06 Limited 4WD V8 4Runner & I am down to only a couple options I want to decide on & I wanted to find some more information on them.

X-REAS - I have pretty much decided that I am getting this option. I do not plan to jack the truck up in the future or do any other kind of suspension mods so this one seems like a no brainer. I just wanted to see what the board thinks of this option & if it is worth the money.

Rear Air Suspension - What exactly does this do? I am in Atlanta & I will be spending 99% of my time in the South (TN, GA, LA, etc) where we get more rain than snow. Additionally, if I get RAS, is X-REAS included with the package or are they two completely seperate unrelated options?

xreas is worth every penny if you ask me. It was and still would be an absolute must get option.

I think on the Limited these two options come together. Anyway, the rear replaces the rear springs with air bags and allows you adjust the height of the rear. It has three settings; low for washing and loading, high for ground clearance off-roading & towing over driveways. It also has an auto setting to maintain the normal ride height even when carrying a load and/or towing. I love the rear air system because of the nice smooth ride under all conditions. If it won't break the bank, it is great option and worth every penny.

I love the rear-air susp on my Limited. Particularily for when it's loaded down the people + gear and/or while towing, because the rear end never looks "sacked out."

Our '03 has X-REAS and air suspension. I use it to tow my track car, and it's soooo nice to just drop the trailer (4000#) on and go.

This convenience comes at a major cost, however: The X-REAS/air option package was over a grand when we bought the truck, while our previous '98 Runner had a pair of Air Lift bags in the back which had to be manually aired up each time I towed, but cost <$100.

BTW, the "high" and "low" settings on the rear suspension can be used only up to walking speeds. I've found this feature to be almost useless.

BTW, the "high" and "low" settings on the rear suspension can be used only up to walking speeds. I've found this feature to be almost useless.

The system will automatically set the height to normal/auto leveling at 22mph regardless of what the setting is set at.

Yes, you can get X-REAS without also getting Rear Air Suspension on the Limited.

That is exactly how mine is configured. :

It must be an area thing. When I purchased my 05 back in Feb there were only 2 option combinations available in my area. The one with nav included XREAS & rear air. I just looked at the 06 for my area and they have four option combinations now. The two with nav have one with just the XREAS and the other has both XREAS & rear air for $1000 more.

I have been e-mailing back & forth with several dealers haggling over price. Most are trying to sell me a truck off their lot with options I do not want, but I told them I will special order to get exactly what I want...my 97 T4R still runs like a dream.

None of them have said anything about X-REAS & RAS having to be combined on the LTD. In fact, one offer I got had the truck optioned out with X-REAS & without RAS, and the pricing matched.

I think you may be right that it is likely a regional thing.

At least in the Southeast, if you want the Rear Air Suspension, you must get the XREAS. You can get the XREAS without getting the RAS though. The problem in this region is that dealers almost always order the Limiteds with both and if you want just the XREAS, you pretty much have to special order the damn things.

Yeah, that is pretty much what I am finding here in ATL. Most V8 4WD Limiteds that have X-REAS also have RAS. None have just one or the other.

It is quickly looking like I will end up having to special order to get what I want. I do not mind it, but the dealers are stonewalling me so far on a special order. They are pushing their current inventory hard.

What Toyota dealer have you worked with in ATL? I have used both World & Sandy Springs for service on my 97 T4R. I went to Marietta once & was not impressed.

When I bought mine, I wanted both xreas and the air suspension as I do some towing as well. Unfortunatly, there was not one available locally with nav and these options. I ended up with just xreas. I have towed a few times (a small 19' runabout and a drift boat) and the rear does not sag so far, but I have yet to hook up a four place snowmobile trailer. It will be interesting to see what happens...

Make sure you get XREAS and RAS.... don't settle for the stuff the dealerships are offering. Get them to find you one out of state.... or country.

Adding Rear Air Suspension

When I ordered my 06 Limited 4x4 V-8, I knew I wanted the X-REAS, but I didn't know much about the Rear Air Suspension so I passed on that option. Since then, after reading a lot of posts on here about the Rear Air Suspension, I think I should have ordered it also.

Has anyone had the Rear Air Suspension added after their truck was built? Since I have X-REAS on my truck, I understand that rear air shocks could prevent X-REAS from doing it's job.

I know I can live without the Rear Air Suspension, but I sure would like to have it if possible. Any suggestions?
