Rear ended my Inferno...ugh

Hi Folks,

I've had my TRD Pro for 3 months and have a whopping 1600 miles on it. This is my second runner, my first was a 97 and was solid so I got another. Well I was rear ended today and the bumper needs to be replaced. The first shop would not touch it due to the color and said it will never match and suggested taking it to the local Ferrari dealer for the paint work. I am not paying so I don't care. Anyhow, just looking for feedback to see if anyone has wrecked their Inferno and if the color matched after the repair. Also, should I pursue diminished value? Thanks guys.

Is it wrecked, or did you just have the bumper get messed up?

I fail to see how a 1600 mile old car won't have the paint match up. I think the first shop you went to likely just sucks.

You could go aftermarket too, depending on what you're really looking to do with the Runner.
 
That first shop just sucks. My tailgate got messed up and a local shop did the work and the paint matches perfectly, or close to perfect by my OCD eyes.

Ferrari dealer?? Give me a break. Because that orange paint is so exclusive.

There's a paint code stamped on a plate. If they don't know how to order automotive paint, and claim that they can't match a brand new vehicle with 1600 miles, then they're not your bodyshop.
 
Thanks guys - that was my thought as well, it's not like the truck is 5 years old and sat in the sun all it's life. The guys also said they could not tape out the top of the bumper and it would look like crap. Again, I just stopped by the place closest to work, but he acted like the truck had the plague and didn't want to even touch it.....very strange as it was an autonation body shop so they see a lot of stuff.
 
I didn't mean to be so negative. Definitely shop around and good luck!

If the damage is substantial, perhaps aftermarket bumper shopping is in your future.

Thanks - no worries I have thick skin :) It really isn't bad at all, I could probably fix it myself, but seeing as it is only 3 months old, I figured I 'd better just have it done right.

I didn't even noticed the tailgate was painted till you pointed it out. It came out perfectly.

A good shop can match almost any color IMO.

For the TRD Pro guys: Your 4Runner is so badass that it has to be taken to the Ferrari shop. Just remember this the next time someone tries to give you crap about your TRDP.

Should have absolutely no problem matching paint on a truck with only 1,600 miles on it... Really shitty collision shop for sure. I know painters that are willing and can match any color no matter how faded it is, not to mention a brand new vehicle where all they have to do is get the paint code. What a joke
 
I was rear ended.. Invest in a hitch. Saved me for the most part.. Pocketed the change and bought some other stuff for the 4runner.
 
Thanks guys - yup taking it to the local Toyota shop this week. They said it will be no problem. The other shop was AutoNation and they have a local yota dealer tied to it; maybe the guy was in idiot. My old runner had a hitch/ball and it saved me a bunch of time....already ordered another for this one even though it is a shin killer. I have an Orange Lotus as well....that would have been totaled had it been rear ended - haha...it is like an egg.
 
not trying to hi-jack but many say go to dealership. I got side swiped 2 cars back, my chevy, only 1 dealer did body work around me, is that common/uncommon?

It just depends. Some dealers do, others don't. It's not uncommon for a dealer to not have a collision center.

I had read that Toyota corp was really pushing their dealers to have collision centers starting back in 2012. We have three large Toyota dealers in town and two have body shops. Funny thing is one says the work is guaranteed for life and at any Toyota dealer; the other says the warranty is only through that specific dealer.
