Rear hatch not staying up

While my 2000 4runner is getting a lot of action this summer, I've noticed the rear hatch is having problems "staying up" :naughty: when opened. Just because its older doesn't mean it can't keep getting lots more action. Would simply replacing the rear hatch lift supports be the right thing to do? If so, is this the right part to get?

Mine's starting to do the same thing. It'll raise up but stop like 3/4 of the way up and I'll have to push it from their cause the hydraulics are going bad. Let me know if you end up getting this and how it works out for you!

dude mine has been doing this for like 2 years now... ya i want it to go up but i dunno if $50 is really worth it since i dont really need it that badly. Well keep us updated on it bc i might get them once it only lifts up 1/2 way.

Sure I'll keep you guys updated. Just need someone knowledgeable to tell me first if this is the right part to get to fix this problem.

I would either go to your local parts store or dealership. I bought some years ago at pep boys. Told them make and model and they gave me what I needed. Easier to return if they are local. Dealership may be pricier, but you know you'll get the right part and it'll be OEM if that matters to you.

Same problem on my 2000. I figured next time I forget to push it up and then I whack my head on it, then I'll replace the parts.

...or maybe a body lift so it clears my head! ha!

there are 2 easy and cheap fixes for this...
1 grab some pliers and pinch the gas tubes a little bit in order to add pressure creating more of a charge.
2 when that no longer works I just bend the strut (inner shiney part) a tiny bit to creat friction... should work like a charm.. ive done it to just about every car ive had.

I got the monroes, and while they're not as good as OEM, they're good enough. Should be under $60 shipped.
