Rear hatch question

I have a 2002 that the hatch will not open and I believe the rods are off the handle. Also the outside key lock has been pushed into the housing and cannot be reached. How do I go about getting the interior panel off the hatch with it closed?

Wow that's a tricky one! I know MillerPKA had a similar issue with a door on his rig but was able to remove the door panel to get to the guts. Not sure if the rear hatch will cooperate as well as the door but it seems like your only option.

Yeah I doesn't appear that it's going to cooperate very well lol. Was hoping there was going to be an escape handle (like in car trunks) I haven't found.

Got the cover off the inside snapped a couple of pictures but can only figure out how to post but one at a time. This is what it looked like when I opened it up.

Here is what the key lock looks like. With this being broken do I have to replace the whole plate holder or will something like jb weld hold it back in place?

This might sound like a dumb question but the hatch is unlocked right? I know you said the key cylinder had been pushed in. Have you tried unlocking from one of the two buttons? (key fob or driver door)?

It's super hard to tell based on those pictures, but it looks like the rods are connected properly. That white plastic piece (the one with the track in the middle) has an articulating male counterpart that slides up and down in the track. The rod snaps into the male piece to allow it to go back and forth on the track. Is the rod connected to that piece?

I don't have the key fob but I did try the buttons on the door with no luck. I snapped the small plastic tab back into the slotted piece before I thought to take the pictures. Will the door lock and unlock properly with the key lock broken from it housing?

Do any of your electric locks work? Passenger door? Passenger rear door? If not, perhaps check fuses?

I can't say for sure, but I don't think the electric locks would be affected by the manual key cylinder breaking from its mounted location. The elec. lock module on the liftgate is under that black cover you see to the right in the first picture you posted. It's held on with one phillips head screw. I doubt you can get a volt meter in there, but if you can, you could check continuity on that module to see if it's any good. If it's bad, I have one I could send you.

Yes all the other locks work fine with the button

Seems since I connected the two plastic pieces together the locking mechanism is working fine now to try some jb weld around the housing of the key lock and see if it will hold it in place. Thanks for the help t4r brothern

The JB weld works great, the only trick is getting the key lock to stay in place for the JB weld to set, good luck!

Same thing happened to me, but I can lock the rear door by manually flipping up the handle on the outside of the door before locking from one of the buttons inside the car.

Question: How to the fix to the punched in lock work? Was JB Weld able to hold? My lock just got pushed in and now I have to open it up to try and fix it.
