Rear Swingout Question for the Fabricators

I'm working on a rear bumper for the 4runner and I'm slowly working towards the swingout portion of the build. Planning on using a 1" bolt mounted double shear with oil impregnated bronze bushing for the hinge. The bushings will be pressed into 1.875" x .375" DOM.

My question is about the main horizontal arm for the swingout. Can I get away with using 3" x 2" tubing with a 0.12" wall thickness or do I need to kick it up to 3/16"? Thanks for the help.

I used .120 wall 2x2 box when i built the one on my jeep. Would haul a 35 around no prob.
Check out A to Z fabrications bumper parts i used their hinge kit and was very happy. Zach, the owner, is a great guy and a true wheeler. Their customer service is top notch. AtoZ Fabrication...Made In the USA

That's pretty much exactly what I'm doing. I already have the 1" bolt and the two flange bushings. Just need to pick up some DOM and I should be good. I guess I will be going with 0.12 wall tubing. I'm assuming that recommendation stands if I throw a hi lift or other accessories on the swingout?

It would probably depend on how the other end is supported. Mine sits on an angle bracket so it can handle extra weight (I have a 5 gal water can on it I fill when going offroad, that adds another 40 lbs). If there is nothing supporting the other end the .120 will bend. I can open my carrier and lean on it and see the tubing bend.

.120 wall will work on almost anything you want to build. Anything that is stationary while driving will be fine.

I've used 120 wall and I've used 180. The weight savings is incredible but there is a limit to what 120 can do. I carry a 35" tire and 6 gallons of water, the water being farthest from the pivot point. I used a gusset from the horizontal tube to the pivot tube. You didn't say how tall your DOM will be between the double shear, but if you can gusset that it would go along way toward preventing the 120 wall to fatigue at the weld. I went with the 3/16" on the last few I made because I didn't feel the 120 could handle it. That being said I've never had one break.
