rear view mirror removal question

Hey all,

First post for me here, been reading for a few weeks now and have learned a lot about my newest Toyota, a 2011 SR5 in mag grey!

Just wanted to confirm the removal of the rear view mirror is just a hard pull upwards and there aren't any clips or allen screws actually holding it in or anything. I see there's a plastic bezel/cover thing around the base (where it attaches to the windshield) but can't seem to remove it to see underneath it, I'm afraid I'll break whatever clip they have holding it in there!

I need to remove it to install my front window film and don't want to have to slit it to slip around the mirror.

I have the auto-dim mirror, and it absolutely has an allen screw to secure it to the windshield tab.

Also, on the 2 replacement windshields I've had thus far (#3 soon, I'm sure!) - they all came with the metal tab pre-glued to the windshield. The metal tab is probably epoxied on the glass pretty good if you are expecting to remove it.

I think there is a write up somewhere about installing a homelink+autodim mirror that include removal. If I recall correctly, you need to pop off the plastic cover with a screw driver or something flat to get to the mount and it's either a tab or a screw, I forget

It's actually a 4th gen write up, but I would still guess the same steps need to be done

That's exactly what I was searching for, but never found that thread for some reason. I'll pull the plastic trim back to see if mine has a set screw or not and post my findings here, maybe it'll help someone else with a 5th gen!

Film's done! Came out great and not one issue to be found anywhere! Took about an hour to shrink the film down, but this windshield is easy to do. Thanks to Toyota for sourcing a good windshield, the black trim is in between the glass laminates, so the dot matrix does not interfere with the film!

And thanks again for the tip on getting the mirror off! Just popped the trim up and pushed up, the whole mirror slid right out!
