Rearview camera mod WITH NAV

Ok, here's the deal. Alot of you have been asking for this since sp8ball posted the rearview mod writeup. I have been looking at the EWD and I'm 99% sure this will work, but someone (gulp) will have to try to verify it works, as I have never worked on a Nav equipped 5th Gen...

Anyway/
There should be a 5 wire gray plug feeding the Nav screen. Unplugged, and looking into the connector the poles are numbered 1-5. Pole #2 is the darker blue wire(ignition hot) and pole #5 is the red wire(reverse sense). The mod should work the same as sp8ball's writeup with these wires.

SPDT switch. Cut red wire. Clip side of red wire to center of switch. Harness side of red wire to outside pole of switch (either side). Tap into blue wire and attach to other outside pole of switch.

I can't tell you exactly where the plug is, or how to take it apart because , once again, I don't have one to work on.

This is one of the hardest mods I've ever done! Obviously I've never done this kind of stuff before... I finished making the switch and next is the wire cutting part, which is the scary part...

Just to confirm, not sure if the color of wires are the same but the layout for navi is on the G20 plug with red as the "CA+", black as "V-", White as "V+", and a light blue one "CGND". So in this case which wire do I cut? "V-" or "V+" ?

And I am suppose to "tap" into the power "CA+" with one of the side post.

Hmmmmmmmm, The one you have unplugged is G19 black, I see G20 there in the pic. The plug I identified in the diagram was gray with 5 connections(G18). That doesn't necessarily mean it will have 5 wires attached. Do you see that one at all? Should be over towards the other corner. I will be travelling with family today, so I won't have time to look at plug G20 in detail. Get back to ya soon as I can tho. I still think G18 will work.

Can you post a pic with all the connections in view? That would help.

I unplugged the black one for a better look at G20 which is where I thought the backup camera plug is at? that's what it seems like according to this diagram:

Some tiny scratches here and there but you can't really see it, only under certain lighting... :happens:

Apparantly LOTS of wires go into making that camera function. But, the system still needs a trigger to turn it on, and my suspicion is it's that red wire (reverse sensing) in the gray plug. The switch at the shift mechanism sends a signal via this wire when you shift into reverse.
If you look at the EWD:

** rearview monitor system with nav, page 7 you will see the red wire coming from the park/neutral switch- ultimately plugging into nav system plug H(G18) pole#5. Page #1 shows the darker blue wire, ignition hot, running off the page - follow to page #2 where it connects to plug H(G18) pole#2.

** Now go to the rearview monitor system without nav section page #1. Same setup, the red wire triggers the camera (that's the mod I have done)

So- basically I am thinking you need to "trick" the camera into thinking it's in reverse to turn it on. Once again- I am not there, so I can't do my usual troubleshooting to figure it out. But, that's where I would start to do the mod. As long as you hookup the wires correctly, you shouldn't damage anything because you will be isolating (disconnecting, basically) the reverse wire trigger with the switch, and sending a power signal to the camera circuit. Here's what I would do...

Cut the red wire from gray plug G18, about 2" from the plug end. Red wire still attached to the plug goes to CENTER of switch - THAT'S IMPORTANT. The other end of the red wire goes to an outside pole on the switch. Tap into the darker blue wire and run that to the other outside pole of the switch. Plug everything back in, but leave the dash apart (in your lap! What a PITA I Know), start the truck (or just turn the ignition on, and test it out. If it works :bluejump:, if not then re-connect the red and blue wires and move on to checking out plug G20(probably). I think I may be able to figure that out, the Hamster's on the wheel....

I'd love to see this as well. I am just very timid about ripping the NAV out. lol.
