I went to install the stinger into the receiver this weekend so my wife could use her new TR4 to tow her race car but I had to abort....
I expected the paint to make the stinger fit tight in the receiver for the first time and it was but I got it inserted and got the pin holes aligned and tried to insert the pin and it wouldn't go so I tried the other side and it was tight but I wiggled the stinger and got it started but when it got to the other side it started to go through and stopped. So I tapped on it with a small hammer thinking it just needed some "help" bot it didn't budge. The end of the pin is tapered so with the "help" it should have aligned and gone through.... (I tried 3 pins that all worked in other applications)
So I removed the stinger and tried to pit just the pin in and it did but you could tell it was tight. Reinserted the stinger and tried again, using a bigger hammer and it wouldn't go, when you looked at it you could tell that it was centering up on the hole it was supposed to come through. I also tried starting from the other side with the same results.
Keep in mind this was at a drag strip with all my buddies' American muscle cars and tow rigs around, so I'll be the butt of their jokes for a while for buying an import to tow with... :bash::bash:
I'll probably fix it myself because taking it to the dealership will be a pain and no telling how long it would take for them to begin a replacement or how much they would have to do to get access to be able to remove and replace it. I'll just use something to open up one of the holes.
The hitch/stinger is a Reese equalizer and sway bar control stinger I've been using with my wife's Xterra and my dodge truck. So I know it's not the stinger.
