Recommendation for a new spare?

Now that I have my new 18" wheels and A/T3's and have sold my OE wheels and tires (incl the spare) to a guy back East, I need to get a new spare.

I haven't even looked at the spare yet, or how it's held in place under the vehicle but I need to get something to replace it.

Do any of you have some recommendations for good choices for a SPARE wheel and tire?

I know it needs to be the same diameter of course, but how much should I worry about the tire structure? I know I don't need to match the tire specs but also depends on how much I'd expect to drive on a spare...etc.

I see cheapo wheels that are discontinued models out on Tire Rack, crazy hideous designs of all types, for like $95 and I could just grab a basic A/T tire that's on sale and call it good...or??

Ideas? Thanks!!

You've invested a fair number of shekels on your truck already and plan on spending more. Do you really want to save a little by going cheap on your spare or do you want to have the same wheel in case you pop a bead out on some lonely trail somewhere? Get the same as you are using for the other wheels if for no other reason than the peace of mind it will give you.

You could get away with a tire spare that's the same diameter, but tires have a habit of having issues right when you need them most. My last tire problem was when we were on a x-country skiing trip 2 years ago and I hit a piece of metal that was covered by snow. It sure was nice not to have to worry about a crappy second rate spare!

Yeah, so true! Good point Grant.

BTW - I think I was a lane away from you at Valmont and 30th last week! Do you have a Firefighter's plate? Silver TE?

+1 for matching spare. If you look on ebay for your tire size. Certain companies usually have single used tires for cheap. I got a 285 BFG Km2 with 30% tread for $30 shipped. Now I'm having a hard time finding a 295.
