Recommendation for iphone mount

I've used it on rough roads at high speeds with my truck and had no issues. You would have to really knock your 4runner around to make it fall off. a tablet maybe anissue, but for a regular cell phone it's got plenty of strength

Another vote for the Steelie Nite Ize. I have mine mounted vertically. Mine will move a little. I have a charger cable plugged in and I have had mine for a long time. I think I just need to use the soap trick and it should be better. I just mounted mine to my phone case rather than my phone. Sorry for the bad pics.

Picked up an allen bolt (got a few lengths - i can't remember what one i used), a few fender washers, and then I had some composite shims laying around (the kind you install windows & doors with)

First, I removed the trim so I could remove the trim which is a solid unit around the radio & HVAC:

I tested placement, then drilled a hole in the right spot:

With the angle of the trim, a large washer will never sit flat, so in comes the composite shim to allow the washer to sit flat and have a nice flat & firm hold against the trim. Plus the larger surface area helps stabilize and reduce the chances of cracking the trim:

With the design of the ball placements & the openings on the composite arms, the arm allows for just enough articulation for the x-grip to hold the phone perfectly:

I'm surprised no one has used the LifeProof QuickMount. The attachment works on not just my car mount, but my bike mount and armband for running. I love it!

I bought the Multi-Purpose Mount and stuck it to the ProClips attachment that fits in the vent. It works great and doesn't move at all! I highly recommend it.

Researched this topic way too much. Ultimately I saw some on amazon that were cheap with great reviews so figured they were worth a try. Turns out they are awesome! Have it in the top vent to the right of the steering wheel, perfect location and my phone has not fallen off yet. They are small and blend in, didn't want a huge contraption to hold my phone..

I bought this suction cup mounted one for $35 from Best Buy because it was the only one they had. I used it for my 6 Plus in a LifeProof case for a long trip a couple weeks ago. No complaints so far, but I have only used it on the road. I don't know how it will hold up for off-roading, but it seems sturdy enough.

A few questions for you sir!

Do you have the +/- 15* "slop" with the cradle some of the Amazon reviews talk about? Does the phone ever slip down in the grip? Will it work in landscape orientation with those exact components (mainly the arm length)? And do you think an iPhone 7+ with a "wallet style" foldable case will still fit in the cradle?

I currently run this one from Mediabridge and it does the trick - but I seem to go through them often (have a wallet case on my phone, and I need to clamp it in pretty good, and eventually break the cradle arms)...

I like a lot of these solutions. I particularly like the ram mount up by the steering wheel. For me, drilling a hole in the interior piece is just not in the cards. My plan is to fabricate a custom bracket the slips between the dash and the head unit and mount in inside the dash. I'll probably put a magnet on the mount since I have a piece of metal on the iphone case. The magnet mount held up well on my Outback, but I never went off road with that.

For many years I utilized a mount that screwed into my CD player of my outback. That worked very well. However, when I recently removed it I noticed it deformed the foam inside the player opening.
