Recommended drilled/slotted rotor brand?

The forum buyer's guide stated below.
"If you are just going to replace the rotors, get ones that are drilled or slotted to help it stay cooler."

Doing a forum search I noticed people using Brembo 25488. But these are not drilled/slotted.

What are people using (drilled/slotted) instead of doing the Tundra brake upgrade?

I’m putting in the Tundra brakes upgrade soon, and I just ordered a Callahan kit from eBay, which include a pair of rotors, calipers, and pads. It’s not slotted or drilled, and I think those will be fine with how and where I drive. I’m not towing anything significant, and I’m not driving like a maniac (too scared, that high center of gravity :scared: ).

Generally you get slotted or drilled rotors when you are constantly braking hard, like if you are tracking your car, which I doubt you are with a 4Runner. My last car, a BMW 335i, had an upgraded brake kit all around, with Brembo four piston calipers, ceramic pads, and Zimmermann cross-drilled rotors. It saw some action on track days here and there, and those brakes really came in handy. However, that brake kit, with those pads, were too sensitive and noisy (track pads generally are) on the street. Drilled or slotted rotors generally are paired with upgraded calipers and pads in order to feel the difference. Otherwise, they’re mainly just for looks. My other concern is, with cross drilled rotors, will they trap any dirt or mud if you go off-roading?

i use DBA 4000 slotted rotors


if you're not upgrading the diameter and thickness of the rotors, don't use cross-drilled ones as the mass reduction is significant, thereby significantly reducing its ability to absorb and dissipate heat.

I recommend StopTech. They have all kinds of quality rotors, light, light-medium duty (my choice), slotted, drilled or both, angled vanes or not (I went angled for better cooling). I don't use drilled anymore - i can feel the holes as i brake, sort of a small vibration - now I just use slotted. Smooth as silk, absolutely zero vibrations. :cowboy:

Definitely following as I need to take care of my front brakes soon and I am not planning on doing a Tundra swap. Any way of checking what size calipers are on the rig stock? I know there were some different sizes depending on packages and options.

No, I used StopTech's pads, 'Street' Brake Pads 308.04360.

Rotors are StopTech 126.44112SL 'Sport' Rotors (right would be same# with R on end). These are slotted and have angled vanes for better cooling, they are directional so of course must be mounted on specific sides.

Solid performance, I've gotten about 55,000 of wear out of the pads. Little to no perceptible dust emitted. :cowboy:

I bought MAXBRAKES for my upgrade, Cross drilled and slotted, the pads that come with them are not the best but the rotors were really well machined , did a run-out test on them and they were in spec even after 4 years.
was not a bad deal for $100 Canadian.

Base and SR5s with 15" wheels have 297mm rotors. Limiteds and SR5s with 16" Factory wheels (installed at factory) have 319mm rotors. And yes those 20 extra mms really make a difference. That will determine the caliper size. :cowboy:
